"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" is the kind of movie you want to punch in the nose.
Agree Tom, it's a very irritating movie. That stupid kid actor needs to get punched.
Jan 21 - 10:15 AM
It's not the actor that's stupid, he was amazing and probably holds a wider range of emotions in one finger than you have in your entire body. Besides the kid is supposed to be like that, it's called developing an interesting character.
Jan 29 - 09:45 AM
I agree! Can you imagine how difficult it would be to learn all the lines he had? I thought he was amazing!
Jan 29 - 11:31 PM
Yeah interesting doesn't mean fucking annoying. The kid was awful and you just want to punch him in the face, besides he isn't even that good of an actor.
Feb 5 - 09:25 AM
Obviously there is something wrong with the kid, as he mentions to his grandfather some tests that doctors did on him to see if he had Aspergers (a type of autism). This should have been made known earlier in the movie though. Maybe viewers would have been a little more sympathetic and less annoyed if we knew there was an actual medical condition with the child and he wasn't just acting like an insensitive spoiled brat because he wanted to. I must admit, I wanted to slap the kid a few times also...but that was before he talked about the tests. After that, I was a bit more understanding.
Feb 12 - 12:43 AM
Any adult that has no comprehension of how a child with Autism acts is annoying. Enlighten yourself Patrick B and you might find you are more valuable to the world.

Jan 21 - 01:34 PM
I would expect something like this coming out of Detroit.
Jan 22 - 05:59 AM
You don't know what you are talking about - loved the story, loved the kid, very good!
Jan 22 - 12:04 PM
Do you realize it's a movie about a boy's father dying in a terrorist attack?
Jan 22 - 04:46 PM
So that's supposed to excuse horrible direction and screen writing? I don't think so. Maybe that's why they used 9/11 so people like you defend this dreck.
Jan 23 - 06:39 PM
Agree with Curt.
Jan 30 - 01:30 PM
likewise. the script, the director, and the kid all sucked the big one. what a whiny, annoying, little brat. I wish one of those hobos would have stabbed him early on, and we could have watched tom hanks grieve the loss of his son - not vice versa
May 30 - 08:55 AM
exactly. they figured they would have a built in audience because it was 9-11 related. Some people just don't know movies. I had a friend who was just dying to see "The Sitter". How is it possible that I could look at the trailer and tell that the movie sucked and my friend saw just the opposite?
Feb 5 - 02:53 PM
Me too lol
Apr 7 - 07:03 PM
You are what is wrong with audiences.
Yeah, let's make a shit movie. It's about a tragedy so audiences have one of two options: They can either like it, or be insensitive assholes.
Jan 24 - 09:21 PM
What is wrong with AUDIENCES? It's the audience's fault for not liking a movie. Jesus, let's not give the director, actors, or writers any attention in that determination, cus they always do a stellar job. . .
Jan 27 - 01:50 PM
These people who cry "unsensitive" at the critics are morons. I doubt these people have ever seen a truly sensitive movie in their lives becuase this movie is too poorly executed to be "sensitive".
Jan 30 - 01:33 PM
Yes, Derpid. Audiences. It is their fault for holding none of the parties you mentioned responsible for awful movie-making responsible, simply because the movie is about some sadsack load of schmaltzy jizz.
Feb 8 - 11:39 AM
He just yells at people for no reason; I know his dad died, but does everyone whos dad died act like a crackpot and run around nyc with a mute guy screaming and crying at random people?
Jan 27 - 07:30 PM
Obviously he has extreme OCD
Jan 29 - 09:47 AM
If you would actually listen, Oscar has Aspergers. It's also fairly obvious if you're somewhat intelligent.
Feb 11 - 08:35 PM
No, but a boy with Autism would. Educate yourself.
Apr 13 - 05:23 PM
You know he wrote the book first, and then added the 9/11 part after. Originally the dad died of a heart attack. Just a bit of info to throw out there.
Jan 30 - 05:46 AM
Actually, while I liked the previous movie adaptation of a Foer book, "Everything is Illuminated", I'm not surprised at these kinds of reviews. I plan to see it, but I doubt it's going to be for everyone.
Jan 23 - 01:12 PM
Jan 23 - 06:34 PM
I don't know about punching anyone or anything in the nose....but, loved the cinematography. Was a wee bit over the top. Seemed to keep reaching over and over and over again.
Jan 24 - 11:39 PM
Tom, I don't agree with you. I thought the movie was very well done and very well written. It was laden with symbols with multiple levels of meaning. It's not for everyone, however, and personally, it's fascinating to see the range of responses to this movie. Perhaps more than anything, it's a mirror that shows us who we are.
Jan 27 - 09:05 AM
Ah, so for those who didn't like this film, what precisely did they see when they looked in the mirror?
Jan 27 - 03:50 PM
People that think that The Hunger Games is a great movie.
Apr 13 - 05:24 PM
I could go with that if I didn't hear the cliches coming off the screen like the actors were reading a list. If I can spot these things it has nothing to do with what I see in myself. It has to do with a bad movie that wouldn't allow me to escape. Part of the fun in movies for me is self reflection as well as character study.
Jan 27 - 08:54 PM
Agree with HypeWaive.
Jan 30 - 01:35 PM
Well, you deserve a kick off the top critic meter for such a stupid comment! KICK!
Jan 29 - 03:28 PM
You deserve a kick in the face for such a stupid comment.

this over drive? no i domt think so...
Jan 31 - 10:27 AM
I know, right? Only nine movies were nominated for Best Picture this year and there was one spot left they could fill, and they didn't choose Drive?? Shame on the Academy.
Feb 3 - 06:42 AM
Yeah this movie was poorly done. I kept asking myself what was the point of this for most of the scenes. I kept faith there would be some clarity but instead I became more annoyed with the child's OCD. They made him way over the top! I walked out of this movie 2/3rds in. Couldn't take it anymore.
Feb 3 - 09:07 AM
He didn't have OCD. He has Autism and that's how it is for many people. You need to educate yourself.
Apr 13 - 05:26 PM
Thank you Tom Long...for expressing my same thoughts so succinctly on this film. You got it (and gave it) "right on the nose."

That sort of comeback to a disagreement is pathetic; and has aged long ago. Please do us a favor and shut up.
Feb 7 - 06:35 PM
And the award for worst argument in the thread goes to...!
Feb 12 - 06:34 PM
this comment is a win
Feb 25 - 10:16 AM
People on this website are stupid. Please shut up.
"This critic is so wrong! i thought the movie was good but then again i'm just one idiot who doesn't really understand what a good movie is, so that means that this critic has no idea what he is talking about and he clearly doesn't understand movies like me, you're average dumbass" People... shut up, you're all so... so annoying.
Feb 5 - 09:30 AM
Totally agree with you. Ever since the site merged with Flixster, these ignorant bastards have been flowing in by the numbers, acting as if their opinion is relevant and important enough to share with the rest of the movie community.
Feb 19 - 10:49 AM
you are a less critic, more asshole.
go and make a better movie than this and then give this remark.
Mar 3 - 10:59 PM
go and make a better movie? so youre saying that, to dislike a movie, you have to have made a better one. your argument fails.
