Some Juicy Plot Details on "Fantastic Four" Sequel
by Scott Weinberg | January 17, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" screenwriter Don Payne recently spilled a few beans to the guys at Comics2Film.com, and while we're not diving into spoiler territory, there's some stuff here that the fans will probably appreciate.

The whole interview is pretty darn solid, but I'll just break a few revelations down into handy-dandy bullet points.

--Galactus will be presented more as a "force" than a "character," which sounds confusing to me, but I don't even remember Galactus all that well. (Was he related to Green Lantern?)

--In news that should certainly please the hardcore comic kook, Mr. Payne lists his source material: The "Coming of Galactus” story from Fantastic Four #48. "We’re also using elements from Fantastic Four #57-60, where the Silver Surfer encounters Dr. Doom," Payne says. "Then there are a couple moments that were inspired by Ultimate Extinction."

--Payne's an old-school comics geek, and he wants the fans to know it!

--To those who were worried about the screenwriter's approach to the beloved Silver Surfer character, fear not: "I think he may be the most complex comic character of all time. He’s mysterious and he’s powerful and he’s menacing and he’s aloof but he’s also thoughtful and noble and tragic. He’s made this huge sacrifice and yet he’s bringing about the destruction of countless worlds and civilizations. He feels guilty about it but he has to have this Zen-like detachment." Hey, depth!

--The Thing will be a bit more resigned to his fate, The Torch will still be a smart-ass, and Reed and Inviso-chick will hit the altar -- but could the Silver one throw a wrench into their romance? Hmmm.

--If "FF2" goes over well and the Surfer FX are suitably amazing, Payne imagines a world in which The Silver Surfer gets, you guessed it, his very own movie.

--Dr. Doom will be back and angrier than ever.

--There's at least four or five classic "Fantastic Four" stories that Payne would love to tell, so get ready for a long series, my friends.

Check out the full interview right here.

You mean the sequel is actually going to have a plot. Something the first did not.

I wish they wouldn't bring back Doom. A great villain but I just didn't like the way he was done in the first one. You're never supposed to see his face. I wanna see the surfer kick some serious @$$

this is gonna be cool!

Glactus is a god like being who feeds on planets and the surfer is his herald, his scout to find him new planets!

oh man I can't wait! I liked the first one and this one seems even better!

Sounds promising
I really didn't like the first one. When I heard they were making a sequel I looked out of my window to see if pigs were flying. But from what I am hearing it starting to sound promising, I'll definetly check it out this go around.

Badass
The first movie is not very good, but for me, as a comics freak, it is a guilty pleasure.

But everything I'm hearing about Fantastic Four 2 sounds pretty gorram amazing.

based on the trailer alone, u can already tell this one will surpass the original at least in interesting content. Thats the thing about the first one, i didn't think it was bad by any means (as in Elektra bad), but it didn't exactly blow my skirt up either. I kind of liken it to The Hulk, not terrible, jus not great by any means.

Im thinking that FF2 could end up being a sleeper hit of 2007. Ive heard alot of great things about this movie and the trailer that came out was without a doubt one of the best trailers for any movie that is coming out in 07 (including Spiderman 3 and, even tho it hurts to say this, TRANSFORMERS). Hopefully this franchise wont get out of hand tho, i dont want to have to see half and dozen FF movies in my lifetime, but we shall see. I hope Dr Doom is better in this movie then the last, and im hoping for another Jessica Alba bra and panties scene too (am i right guys??)

That's what I thought they might do with Galactus. His comic book form could never turn out well onscreen.

This may be news, but it's OLD news. Why bother with this story? We've known all of this crap since forever. Slow movie-news day?
