Our Favorite Fast & Furious Cars

We look at the hottest cars from each movie in the franchise.

The upcoming release of Fast & Furious marks the return of both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker to the franchise that helped make them stars. For that matter, Michelle Rodriquez and Jordana Brewster are returning too. That's all well and good for the original cast to make their franchise comebacks, but for some of us, the Fast & Furious movies are really just about the cars. That's why we've put together a list of our favorite cars from each chapter in the series. We've picked out eight cars from each movie, and put them in a rough order that corresponds to when you see them on screen. Just think of this as RT's Fast & Furious "dream garage," and make sure to let us know which of these you would most like to have hidden away in your own garage.

The Fast and the Furious

Cars from The Fast and the Furious (2001)

1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

We first see this Mitsubishi screaming around the parking lot at Dodger Stadium as undercover cop Brian O'Connor tries to hone his drag race driving skills. But the car isn't fast enough for him, leading him to install a nitrous oxide system that ultimately leads to the poor car's doom.

1993 Mazda RX-7

In the movie, Dominic's RX-7 features a killer sound system and nitrous bottles hidden under the passenger seat. This is the first hint that the movies are going for style over substance; as much as Dom lectures Brian about "real racers," he seems to have forgotten that a subwoofer won't make a car go any faster. Real racers know that stereo equipment only functions as dead weight in the quarter mile.

1994 Acura Integra

The Toretto clan seems to be all about cars, and Mia (played by Jordana Brewster) is no exception. The first chapter of the series finds her zipping around LA in this Integra, showing that serious driving skills seem to run in the Toretto family.

1995 Toyota Supra Turbo

After his Eclipse explodes (we told you that nitrous was dangerous), Brian still owes Dom a 10-second car. So Brian acquires a totaled Supra, and Dom's crew takes a relatively fast car and turns it into a highly-tuned monster that can apparently outrace a Ferrari.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta A3

Admittedly, Jesse's Jetta isn't really that hot; the body modifications look awkward, and it doesn't help that it loses the only race we hear about. But the German marques are woefully absent in the entire Fast and Furious, and so we're sneaking in this VW.

1995 Honda Civic

This is one of three Hondas that Dom's crew used to hijack big rigs. You could argue that the Honda Civic is to the tuner scene what the 32 Ford was to the classic hot rod scene; an inexpensive, easily modified car that makes for a great racing platform. Or in this case, the perfect highway hijacking platform.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T

It's always a treat to see a car with so much torque that the body twists when you rev the engine. So what's with the fake blower sticking through the hood? OK, so it looks cool, but in reality the air intake sticking through the hood is purly a cosmetic installation. Adding insult to injury, what's probably the hottest car in the the first movie ends up dying in a spectacular crash at the end of a race, breaking the hearts of muscle car fans around the world.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

You didn't get to see this car unless you stayed through entire end credits of The Fast and the Furious. After Dom drives off in Brian's Supra, he apparently heads down to Mexico and at some point picks up this classic hot rod. And though we only see it for a moment in the first film, this Chevy makes a big comeback in the latest installment.

I didn't like the new Fast and Furious movie, thought it was mediocre, though if u are a fan of the series then you'll like it. Also the Dodge Charger IS the coolest one.

God, agreed, the Charger R/T was my boyhood dream car

Jokerboy, I agree with you on the Charger, at least in the first movie. But I have to say I'm also partial to the Skylines and the Yenko Camaro.

hands down the best car of any of the movies is the 1970 dodge charger. that car is so sweet.

You've gotta love the Skyline that blows the hot ladies' skirts up. also the 98 skyline is soo beasty. love skylines.
Same with later 90's supras, love em.
Since Suburu went with the permanent change to the WRX STi body and made it a hatchback back in....idk 07 or 08 model, i haven't liked them as much. i love the STi sedan models.
I also gotta show some love to the old muscle cars like the Charger and Chevelle SS.

I've also been wondering for a long time why Mazda has not made a 'mazdaspeed' version of the RX-8. they've done it with the Miata, 3, and 6 (which my family owns), but why not RX-8? idk. RX-8 certainly deserves to be much faster and sportier like its predecessor the RX-7. i've driven an RX-8 was definitely not impressed. not a big fan of the rotary engine (also bad gas mileage) for a reg driver cuz it needs to be constantly revved so high.

They shold've just put the new Nissan GT-R in the new movie, whoever has that car just wins all, it would undoubtedly smoke the shi.t out of any car in those 4 movies, best car on the planet.

Castor Troy

Castor Troy on 04-2-2009 08:15 PM

The reason why it would be a shame to have the new Nissan GT-R as a replacement of the GT-BNR34 is because exactly that. The motor alone, that particular inline 6 is what made that car so popular. The GT-R is a V6 and has no comparison to power, or bolt on capability of the R34.

What about the Saleen Mustang in 2F2F? The one that got murdered by the semi? Saleen Mustangs are my favorite muscle cars all around. Even though I drive an '03 Lancer EVO VIII, I still love me some American muscle! You kind of miss the torque ripping the rear of your car out from underneath of you.

They said the saleen mustang was not acually a saleen, just had the appearance of one, I think it was to just save money. So we can all breath easier knowing all that extra cash wasn't wasted. lol

I like Mazda a lot though, have had a Miata (great car), the first model of the Mazda 6 (such a great car) and the Mazdaspeed 6 is pretty sick, when the turbo kicks in mannnnn....Didn't mean to come off as hating on the RX-8 its a nice car, I meant I wasn't too impressed with the performance I thought it would be better, but I think it deserves a sporty Mazdaspeed tune up! =)

Haha sorry for the multiple posts I just love cars =)

I agree with the original author, the F&F movies are about the cars. I loved that Orange Supra so much (from the first film) I ended up buying a stock 93 on ebay. It was a twin turbo and then I just recently did a single turbo conversion on it. 500 horsepower at the wheels :)

King Thor

King Thor on 04-1-2009 02:32 PM

Lucky you! Supras are hard to find, especially twin turbo 6 speed manuals. If you find one it is usually very expensive also, it's basically a collector's item now.

Easily the hottest car in the entire series (up to the 3rd movie, haven't seen the 4th yet) is the Veilside 1997 RX-7. The RX-7 is one of my all time favourite cars and typically I hate what tuners do to the car. However, the combination of the ultra-wide body and the orange and black colour scheme and I just loved it.

In a distant second, I'd probably have to say Paul Walker's first car, the 1996 Eclipse. The colour was wild for its day and it just started it all.

Neeeeek

Neeeeek on 04-2-2009 06:21 AM

The best "car" was the F-150 Lightning being used as a parts hauler in the first movie that probably could have outrun 90% of the "fast" cars in the rest of the film. :-P

frogleg

frogleg on 04-2-2009 07:48 AM

I haven't watched the movies, but just from checking out the cars on the list, I'd rank 'em like this:
1. Yenko Camaro
2. Challenger
3. Charger
4. F-Bomb
5. Chevelle
6. Buick Grand National
7. Mustang (without the dumb motor)
8. Torino
9. Everything else.

frogleg i understand u don't like imports but don't hate on a motor that puts out 330whp in stock configuration and can put 700 down with mere bolt ons, all out of a 2.6 liter...seriously wat did it come with stock a 289 that put out 170hp?? and gets 17mpg??

High Plains Drifter

High Plains Drifter on 04-4-2009 07:02 PM

RB26DETT (factory rated at ~280HP..) also weighs ~700 pounds (fully dressed).. the 289/302/351 can also put down serious power with "mere bolt ons".. HP/L is a worthless measurement of performance(It also gives little in regard to efficiency, especially with forced induction), try power/weight.. And i would say 600 hp at the crank is more reasonable than "700 down". The Hi-Po 302..in '64.. made 271 HP.. Boss 302 in '69.. under-rated at 290, and weight

High Plains Drifter

ugh it cut off my post.. they weight

edwin m.

edwin m. on 04-4-2009 09:33 PM

the rb26dett was underrated as well...many have been dynoed in stock configuration and put out numbers well over 300...i have a sr20det powered 240sx and i actually beat a 289 powered mustang...a v8 nova as well...torque can only get you so far..and i still get 27mpg

edwin m. on 04-4-2009 09:38 PM

i like big blocks too i just dont like the hating on imports. everyone has their own taste in cars i was mad cause he hated on a great engine...it was just a movie...omg a jdm engine in an american car!! ford guys put chevys engines in their rides all the time..stop the hate!!

Micheal Smith

Micheal S on 02-4-2012 02:08 PM

I agree... dont disrespect a legendary muscle with a import engine... it doesn't matter what it puts out, its all bout the respect the Fastback deserves... American Muscle was meant to have nothing smaller than a V8... The Chargers is hands down the greatest car of all of them an the only one to go through hell an back...

edwin m.

edwin m. on 04-2-2009 08:17 AM

it supra was the one the hit the billboard, the rx7 never wrecked...get it right if ur doing an article about it man.

The Yenko Camaro is by FAR the best car in the series. All other discussions are null and void! I would gladly trade in my beloved 69' SS Camaro for Yenko!

My rankings:

1) Yenko Super Camaro
2) 1970 Dodge Challenger
3) 1970 Chevelle
4) Buick GNX
5) F-Bomb Camaro
6) 1970 Dodge Charger

You guys can have the rest.

these movies were supposed to be inspired by import tuning scene.. hondas, acuras, eclipses.... why is so much enphasis being put on the american muscle cars?.. altho i personally love the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS... i think the best car of the 1st series was hectors hatchback.. that was a bad *** lil ride.. skylines tho have to be the best cars..especially in the tuning world.

I am a huge Mustang fan but I'm going to say that the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T is the best car in the series (the first one and the second one). I still do like that Mustang though even if it did have a tuner engine implant.

The post about the 01' Mitsubishi Eclipse is incorrect.

It was a Eclipse Spyder GTS w/ the RIPP Mods Supercharger.

They missed a few other cars such as The Saleen Mustang, Chervrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper SRT10,F-150 Lightning,Ferrari Enzo and the 1st Honda S2000 in the 1st movie "black one".

Although I'm a Ford man I love all of these fast *** cars!!!
