"Universal apparently wanted the next sequel turned around too quickly" This line alone explains why he doesn't want to do a number 7 that if producers want to rush a director to do things faster that he's going to do a sh-tty job of it!

It sounds like the studio executives were taking the franchise title serious. Fast and Furious. They wanted the movie made Fast, and the director was going to be Furious, so Lin smartly sped the hell out of there.
