Movie Info

Joe's getting burned out. Back when he actually wrote children's books, they were pretty lousy, and now he just plain doesn't write. His girlfriend is losing her patience with him, and the mid-life crisis is just around the corner. To shake Joe out of this funk, his best friend (and girlfriend's brother), JP pulls him away from sunny California to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, for the annual community Polar Bear Plunge. This affectionate comedy lets Joe cross paths with a colorful family of locals. Feed the Fish is a romantic comedy that celebrates the Wisconsin way of life through dreams, hockey, and lots and lots of snow.more

Critic Reviews for Feed the Fish

'Feed the Fish' is a quiet, funny movie that's a nice take on the old fish-out-of-water formula. The screenplay recognizes the formula and makes it enjoyable with quirky characters and the by turns gorgeous and stark backdrop of Door County, Wis.

Writer-director Michael Matzdorff, a Green Bay native, clearly has an affection for Door County ... But that makes the weather and other up-nort clichés all the more disappointing.

Audience Reviews for Feed the Fish

Well, this had it's moments of chuckles from me. Not enough moments, though. I don't know if this movie suffers from not so great editing, or not enough strength in the storyline, but something just seemed to be missing. Not a bad movie at all. It seemed to have so much potential, but just didn't hold up.

Tony Shaloub irritates me to no end, so I probably should have known better than to try to watch this movie. I sat through 40 minutes of it, realized I just did not care what was happening, and shut it off. Besides the fact that I can't stand him, the movie as a whole is very boring and never really seems to go anywhere. Don't bother.

This was a great movie. I was not in the mood for a big flashy high budget film and this one seemed to fit the bill. Shot in an area that I visit almost every year, it was very down to earth with some quirks to keep it interesting. Accept it for what it is and you will not be disappointed. Don't go if you are a cosmopolitan type person. You will not get this movie at all. But if you are down to earth, I think this movie might mean something more than you might otherwise expect. Enjoy!
