Some of Hollywood's greatest talents and most enigmatic figures worked in the film noirs that defined much of 1940s and '50s American cinema. Lang, Mann, Lupino, Powell, and Cavalcanti may have hailed from Europe, but their time spent behind the camera in the States proved to be some of the most fruitful of their careers. Collected here are five noir films from these important directors that showcase their talent and unique perspective on the American experience as seen through European lenses.
