Critics Consensus: Final Destination 5 Sorta Thrills, The Help Inspires

Summary

This week at the movies, we've got deadly premonitions (Final Destination 5, starring Nicholas D'Agosto and Emma Bell); a wacky bank heist (30 Minutes or Less, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride); societal change (The Help, starring Viola Davis and Emma Stone); and Gleek mania ( Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, starring Lea Michele and Chris Colfer). What do the critics have to say? Listen up, Final Destination fans: we've got good news, and we've got bad news. The good news first: the critics say Final Destination 5 is probably the best entry in the series, with tense, well-crafted set pieces that provide some welcome freshness to the franchise's signature Rube Goldberg-esque kills. The bad news: "critical success" is a relative term here. Back to Article

30 Minutes or Less still looks like this weekends best bet. The others I have no interest in seeing.

I HATE the tagline for FD5: "Death has never been closer". Seriously?? Every movie a bunch of teens died. How in the hell could Death GET closer to you? Is Death on your Christmas card list? Is Death your emergency contact?

I'm disappointed with the critics opinion of 30 Minutes or Less, I was hoping it would be an entertaining film.

Wow Final Destination 5 having a better score than 30 minutes of Less? Did not see that coming. Did not see 30 minutes of less getting the lowest reviews out of the four either, especially since it was from the director of the awesome Zombieland and the film I was anticapting most out of the four. I guess it wasn't able to shift between the humor and the darker aspects the way Zombieland did, though hopefully it will still have its share of laughs.

Emma Stone truly looks like she's going to end up becoming one of the biggest actresses of her generation. With the exception of a couple of duds (she was in Marmaduke?) her choices in roles have been really smart. Looking forward to seeing how she does in The Amazing Spiderman.

I watch Glee on TV, but I'm not really a big enough Gleek to go watch a Glee concert movie, even if it's earning good reviews.

Lets just hope she doesn't over saturate herself. She's been in a lot of stuff lately.

So far I think she's safe, as the movies she's selecting generally appeal to different demographics which should keep her from wearing out her welcome with one particular audience.

She may be in a lot of movies but her acting is not exactly remarkable and she's not hot enough to get by on looks a la Halle Berry. The Fannings have the generational actress titles locked down.

How does Halle Berry get by on looks? Her movies consistently bomb and the one she was recognized for was the one she played down her looks for.

the fact that she is still in movies when her movies bomb is how she gets by on looks.

I agree with people here in that I'm still the most excited to see 30 Minutes Or Less, it looks like a blast, and my opinion can go either way with comedies with mixed reviews.

Wow I guess I'm the only one whose wanting to see "The Help". I guess it's because people see it as a "chick flick". Just because the movies has mostly woman doesn't make it a chick flick. Oh well, that's just me.

No, people don't wanna see The Help because it's a movie about black and white characters that apparently glosses over all racial undertones. Really? In a world post-The Wire there can be movies about the South in the past that gloss over race? Race is STILL a huge issue in the South, I have no idea how you can gloss over it and make a good movie.

I can't believe FD5 is good. I also can't believe they wanted to make a 5th one. I am really not interested in it and it just seems like another thriller film.
