Based on a novel by Lawrence Sanders, Edward Delaney (Frank Sinatra) is an aging New York City detective nearing retirement who is burdened by the severe illness of his wife, Barbara (Faye Dunaway). When a axe-wielding serial killer (David Dukes) begins to throw the city into a state of panic, Delaney becomes consumed with a desire to capture the murderer. This film features Sinatra's return to the screen after a ten-year absence.
