Agree! Special effects can only do so much (like in Pearl Harbor), but after too many drawn out scenes of blood and guts and men being mowed down, you get the idea that the intent was the carnage imagery and not the real people who died or their sacrifice. Burt Lancaster did Hayes very well and a remake of his movie was unnecessary without significant changes in theme or plot.

I fast forwarded through 90%.
