I'm at a loss for words for how BAD this movie is

UGH! I don't even know where to begin. LOVE Denzel and LOVE Zemeckis' style. But detested this movie. I couldn't wait to return it to the Redbox. But couldn't due to the hubby being into it more than I was. I wanted to care for and cheer on Whip. But found myself saying... when is this going to end? Nothing to get excited about and something I won't view again. I'm just so disappointed in a film from a great director and a brilliant actor that was as flat as a three day old open can of Coca-Cola. Blech! Sad!

I thought the story made a very good point. Something goes wrong with a plane from a major airline and everyone turns and tries to blame the pilot. while it is true that he had a substance abuse problem, that wasn't what caused the accident, and they all knew it. They were just latching onto it to save their reputation. They couldn't care less about the casualties and the injured.

This had the absolute worst language and porn content of any "mainstream" movie I've ever seen. My wife and I watched for half an hour, fast forwarding through the worst of it, but eventually we gave up. This isn't just bad, it's completely awful. If you're capable of being offended, this movie will offend you.

This is true, but I felt this was one of those movies that you have to finish watching, then sit and distill all the useless stuff that they throw at you to get to the core of the story. And the core of the story was good.

I had very high expectations given I believe both the movie and Denzel were up for Oscar's for it. I've been around alcoholism first hand- Whip's denial until the end is certainly a fair portrayal. However, how on Earth had he flown for so many years drunk on many occasions? I realize he was friends with Margaret (and romantic with the other stewardess) but how would she not have turned him in a long time ago? It's hardly driving a car.

I also felt like there was a lot of very slow build up to the inevitable self destruction. The movie was about 30 minutes too long. While a bit cliche, I did think the scene with the other prisoners and then especially with his son was a good way to end it.

All in all, maybe worth watching once but certainly not up to par with other Denzel movies.

I agree. Not a bad movie, just a dull one. The crash was the highlight of the movie for me, lol. I rewatched that part twice. Oh, and also rewatched the beginning with Nadine Velazquez several times, that part was pretty nice too ;)

I take it you've never had alcoholism in your life. I was a nice case study I thought, Denzel played it how I would have before I got sober. That said it's not a movie I'd write home about or watch again, but compared to some of the crap that passes for a movie it was alright.

I'm in aww of how people are complaining about this film. I felt that the story was strong and the moral message was powerful. For some, the movie may seem cliche, but we all need reminders to keep fighting our shortcomings in order to achieve for a greater cause. From what I saw, it was a man that found comfort in his demons, which I can relate to, that had to make a powerful choice for salvation. In my opinion, the ending is just as brilliant as the plane scene and Whip Whiticker is one hell of a hero that inspires me. To those that did not like this film please take second look and ask yourself, how many would have done what he did in that courtroom?

Not every movie has to be one unending car chase.

Some people would not know a good movie even if they were not drunk. This is a ten and Denzel hit's that sweet spot! A pleasant surprise.
