Judging by the the movie's enduring popularity, the message that stupidity is redemption is clearly what a lot of Americans want to hear.
Not only does hating this movie make you un-american but it also says you don't have a soul, so while your dumping on forest gump why don't u go eat a baby or burn down an orphanage you soulless monster.

This Movie is by far one of the greatest and most inspiring ever made, if you where not a slow witted stubborn Yankee, you could possibly see this for yourself. Sorry but your false review just lost you 9/10 of the American people

You're definitely right. The only way anyone will ever suceed is if they have an IQ over 120 at the very least. Otherwise, don't try to accomplish anything- you'll just end up failing, because you are stupid, end of story.Emotions are for wimps, too. Feeling moved by someone accomplishing great things despite a disability and not because of an advantage is for losers.I hope to God that by now someone realizes my sarcasm.

I dont doubt you as a critic but I do believe you're looking at the movie through the wrong perspective. It shouldn't be the subject of analysis, its pure entertainment. Just watch and enjoy.

I don't doubt you as a critic but I do think you're looking at the movie through the wrong perspective. It shouldn't be the subject to any kind of analysis. It's heartwarming and magical, just watch and enjoy.

I don't read your stuff, Rosenbaum, and I have little hope that you and I would see eye to eye on most films. But with this single comment you earn my respect. FORREST GUMP is just another of those loathsome animal stories that pop up in times of stress -- a film that works on easily obtained sentiment and lathers us up with plenty of nostalgia. It posits an emotional spastic as some sort of Holy Fool and covers its bases -- or shall I say hedges its bets -- by showing sympathy for all sides of The Issue that divided the generation of the 1960s. After an aimless, heartless story that goes on at cruel overlength it finally gives us its great nugget of wisdom -- "Life's like box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." My, what an enriching thought! I don't know how I made it through life before I learned that. Other than Gary Sinise, who is never bad, this picture is the very distillation of what I most despise in Hollywood. That it comes from the same man who gave us USED CARS is a sad demonstration of the power of budgets and superstars to destroy movies.

Go die in a hole, you incompetent lowlife. You think insulting the better part of the 1.12 million people that voted is cool or something? In that case, your IQ must be even lower than Forrest's.

Everyone here slamming Rosenbaum have the intelligence of a gnat...but that is my opinion. This man is one of the most respectable critics around. I agree with him half the time but respect every one of his views towards the film. He has a broader range of film than most of the American public do. I absolutely love Forest Gump but completely understand why he does not. He is not scared to go against the public opinion either. Just because the film is near universally loved doesn't mean he will sell himself short to love it too and it's why I have quite a lot of respect for Mr. Rosenbaum. I pose this question: How many of you slamming him have seen a film by Antonioni, Eisenstein, Bergman, Godard, Kurosawa, Truffaut, Ozu, Fellini, Rivette, and Cassavetes? Maybe I am being pretentious but I bring a valid point here and that cannot be argued.

This guy didnt like this movie because it didnt have any gay cowboy sex or a woman dressing up as a man in 1800's england. This film is a masterpiece and Tom Hanks' performance was oscar deserved (he won best actor) and i think the movie won for best picture that year so what does that tell you? Oh yeah, just check out the tomatometer and see that critics only gave this film a 71% rating and cinema viewers gave it 93% Critics are just full of crap! But they will give an Iranian film a 100% rating! Stupidity!!
