As a viewer, if you have eyes and ears and even the slightest semblance of a brain, you will understand that Forrest Gump isn%u2019t to be taken seriously at all. The film is having fun with history %u2013 it%u2019s not trying to make any political or historical points. Whether you find the film%u2019s running historical gags funny %u2013 and personally some aren%u2019t nearly as funny as they think they are %u2013 could be a valid criticism, but calling it vile and irresponsible is hilarious.

There is plenty in Forrest Gump to criticize: over-sentimentality, the rigidity of its plot and dialogue that is sometimes underwhelming. But vile? %u201CA Clockwork Orange%u201D would be a film that could be called vile and irresponsible %u2013 if you happened to disagree with Kubrick%u2019s dystopian vision. Personally, I think %u201COrange%u201D is great as well but for someone who didn%u2019t like the film, I%u2019ll at least listen to someone who calls it vile.

But %u201CForrest Gump%u201D is a harmless film. It%u2019s not a detriment to society; there%u2019s no hatred or anything else that could be construed as harmful. This film is light, innocuous and ultimately isn%u2019t meant to be taken seriously anyway %u2013 calling it irresponsible is nothing short of, well, irresponsible. By the way, thanks for giving me something to do for the last ten minutes of work.

Please, everybody, do not take this fool seriously. Anything that smacks of a point of view different than his angry take on America is something to be scorned. He is a little sick, and his use of hyperbole of this nature illustrates this so completely. I've seen his type around quite a bit these days, and frankly, they are ripping at the fabric of this country, a fabric of decency, restraint, and basic human kindness, expressed with polite discourse. Bitter and mean, they will slink off to their lives of quiet desperation as they watch the world pass them by.

i agree. Forrest Gump was VILE. i three up three times watching it, i was so disgusted.

and what is the world coming to when hollywood thinks it has the right to create such an IRRESPONSIBLE portrayal of american history?? Forrest Gump was NOT the mind behind the "s*** happens" bumper sticker. and in real life, NOBODY moons the president and gets away with it!
