F. P. 1 refers to "Floating Platform 1," a huge landing platform and refueling station being built in the middle of the Atlantic by a group of forward-looking industrialists and engineers. But some people -- especially the shipping companies -- see F. P. 1 as a mortal threat to their financial well-being, and will stop at nothing, including sabotage and murder, to destroy it.
