Tim Burton Talks Full-Length Frankenweenie
A boy, his dog, and 3-D animation.
Tim Burton is gearing up to turn his 1984 short film Frankenweenie into a full-length 3-D feature for Disney.
We first heard about Burton's desire to update Frankenweenie last month, when word surfaced that it would be part of a two-picture deal with Disney that will also see Burton directing a 3-D Alice in Wonderland -- but yesterday, Sci Fi Wire published a new interview with the director, in which he discusses the project in more depth.
New technology, as you might expect, played a role in Burton's willingness to revisit the past. From the article:
We're going to do that real low-budget...The thing that excites me about it and that will make it different is that when I look at my original drawings, there are certain things that are in those that I couldn't get in the live action when I made the film. So I'm quite excited to try to get a certain emotion and other characters in the new version, and I want to make it a slightly bigger story.
The updated Frankenweenie is being targeted for a 2009 release.

AlbertBrodsky writes: on Dec 11 2007 11:56 AM Wow, Frankenweenie and Beastmaster at the theater? Sweet. I've only seen Beastmaster on TBS. Did anyone see Captain Eeo(sp?) at Disney World. It was a great 3D movie starring the one and only Micheal Jackson. The story was awful, but the 3D was amazing! We went to it twice just because it was soo unbelievable. The very first thing that happened was a asteroid floats out of the screen and appears to be right in front of your face. People were literally trying to reach out and touch it. They shot the thing using a camera set up that had three individual lenses so that when you didn't have the glasses on, it was a blurry mess on the screen. You could see all three angles mixed into each other. This seems like it would be easy to accomplish in cgi. A movie like "The Incredibles" would be amazing in 3D. I haven't seen Beuwolf, so can anybody tell me if this is what the movie was like? (Reply to this) |
