Flashbacks show how the pregnant Bernadette sneaked into Ireland on a U.S. war ship, and her subsequent affair with a married man named Jack Kelly. Kelly, who became a father figure to Frankie, taught the boy about the cosmos and heavenly bodies (hence Frank's celestial nickname), which became Frankie's lifelong passion. But his love of the stars couldn't save him from the physical and emotional hardships caused by his dwarfism here on Earth. [More]
