A remake of the 1976 classic, this story of mother-daughter body-switching features impressive and entertaining performances from established star Jamie Lee Curtis and teen actress Lindsey Lohan. Curtis plays Tess Coleman, a widowed psychiatrist juggling her job and family while planning her second marriage. Lohan plays her rebellious rocker daughter Anna, who disapproves of her mom's wedding plans. Complete opposites, Tess and Anna are forced to understand each other's perspectives when one night, after bickering at a Chinese restaurant, they wake up in each other's bodies under a fortune-cookie curse. A hilarious series of physical comedy routines ensues, as Tess must deal with Anna's high school and Anna must cope with Tess's adult responsibilities. To make matters worse, this all happens on the same day of Tess's rehearsal dinner and Anna's band audition for the House of Blues. In a challenging role that requires her to slouch, curse, and flirt like a teenager, Jamie Lee Curtis is a comic genius. [More]

Reviews for Freaky Friday
At the film's end, I realized I had completely escaped into the fantasy and comedy laid out before me for 90 minutes. Now, any movie that can do that is doing something very right indeed.
A pop-punk re-up of the lively, amusing 1976 Disney original that stands as a credibly entertaining family film due chiefly to the presence of its two deft, personable comediennes.
For dumb movies about body-to-body switcheroos (a frighteningly well-represented comedy sub-genre) this Disney remake is pretty darn good.
The light and breezy comedy works very well for the most part, and the film's emotional climax is surprisingly powerful.
I’m forced to hold back my usual criticisms when the end product turns out to be actually pretty darn good.
Stories about role reversals are usually about teaching both sides a lesson in humility and appreciation. Here, all the lessons are for frumpy adults who’ve forgotten about rock and roll.
Despite the film’s oversimplification and occasional lapses of logic, one can’t help being charmed by its genuinely sweet, good-hearted approach.
It's the playful Jamie Lee Curtis who makes this movie. A rare time where the remake is better than the original!
It's always great to see a good actress at work. With Disney's remake of 1976's Freaky Friday, audiences get to see two of them.
[Curtis is] wonderfully silly, but the rest of it is mostly forgettable.
The material here may not be the freshest, but screenwriters Heather Hach and the redoubtable Leslie Dixon have buffed the dialogue until it sparkles like the finest cubic zirconium, and the cast is game from top to bottom.
It's really a family film, deftly updated for the 2003 market, but still sweetly funny at its heart.
