A remake of the 1976 classic, this story of mother-daughter body-switching features impressive and entertaining performances from established star Jamie Lee Curtis and teen actress Lindsey Lohan. Curtis plays Tess Coleman, a widowed psychiatrist juggling her job and family while planning her second marriage. Lohan plays her rebellious rocker daughter Anna, who disapproves of her mom's wedding plans. Complete opposites, Tess and Anna are forced to understand each other's perspectives when one night, after bickering at a Chinese restaurant, they wake up in each other's bodies under a fortune-cookie curse. A hilarious series of physical comedy routines ensues, as Tess must deal with Anna's high school and Anna must cope with Tess's adult responsibilities. To make matters worse, this all happens on the same day of Tess's rehearsal dinner and Anna's band audition for the House of Blues. In a challenging role that requires her to slouch, curse, and flirt like a teenager, Jamie Lee Curtis is a comic genius. [More]

Reviews for Freaky Friday
Disney's new Freaky Friday may be a remake, but it ripples with far more creative zeal than this summer's slew of uninventive sequels, which are basically remakes in themselves.
Wise but not too preachy, warm but never snuggly, it's also one of the funniest films this year.
In happily embracing its contrivances, [the movie] proves mildly diverting.
Thanks to the inventive performances, smooth direction by Mark Waters and fresh script ideas by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon, it actually has something to offer since the 1977 original.
The ideal remake -- funny, good-hearted and loaded with genuine charms of its own.
Although the role reversal genre has been done to death, snaps to Freaky Friday for unearthing plenty of fresh laughs.
[Freaky Friday] delivers scenes we can anticipate, but with more charm and wit than we expect.
I'll bet my DVD collection that barely anyone's ire will be raised over the insensitivity shown to Asians in Freaky Friday. It deserves to be greeted with a fair degree of disgust.
The movie's predictability takes little away from its fizzy entertainment value.
This movie is entertaining and charming, it may be as unexpected as waking up in your mother's/daughter's body.
The Morals of the Story are presented with a degree of craftiness generally unseen in most modern-day Family Flicks, and there's a refreshing lack of push-button pablum that one normally sees in movies of this sort.
...a minor treasure: a family-friendly remake funnier, fresher and more affecting than the flavorless original.
