Given the title, it's remarkable how little space is granted to the offspring, who are introduced as excretory machines, sex-blocking irritants, and occasional simpering angels, but never as beings unto themselves.
Anthony Lane is on crack, or just plain didn't watch the movie. The main "kid" in the movie give a delightful performance, and actually performs a catalyst role in the movie. Otherwise the "kids" he is talking about are all under 4 and perfectly incapable of delivering considered performances.
Or perhaps he would have rather seen six year olds trying to play 3 year olds?
He also missed the point, since this movie is about how kids change adult lives, and not vice versa. The character arc is in the adults, not the kids. I think Mr. Lane could best serve as target in the next projectile diarreaha scene, since apparently all his reviews are shot out of his butt.

Agree. He seems to have missed the point of the movie, which is how adults change after they have kids. Or rather, what kids do to relationships.

The movie sucked..., along with the acting, directing, and writing by Jennifer Westfeldt.
