Yosemite Sam plays a mean dag-blasted pirate who finds a treasure map and goes off in search of booty--only to run into Bugs Bunny at every step. Of course, there's lots of explosives and drops from high places to please fans of these two crazy, classic characters. Peak moments include Bugs's impersonation of a mermaid and Sam's face-off with a particularly large-toothed shark. It's orchestrated in typically loony fashion by director Chuck Jones and dedicated to his friend and fellow Warner Bros. cartoon giant, Friz Freleng, who died two years before this film was released. Yosemite Sam's voice was done by Frank Gorshin (the Riddler from the 1960s BATMAN series), in lieu of another departed Warner Bros. giant, Mel Blanc. Fans should still find this vehicle seaworthy for a voyage back to the good old days of existential cartoon hostility, with the great Chuck Jones piloting at full speed. [More]
