Audience Reviews for Gamera vs. Monster X/Monster from a Prehistoric Planet

In the mid 60's, Gamera the giant sea turle was created in order to capitalize off of Godzilla's major success, and all the movies did what they set out to achieve. Gamera would become one of Japan's most famous monsters. All the Gamera movies (and pretty much every other Japenese monster movie), are all extremely similar.

An evil monster's 200 million year cat nap is disturbed by a volcanic eruption, and they are awfullly cranky about it. Gamera comes and usually gets his ass kicked the first go around (he always gets beat up while he's on his back). He then retreats to the nearest ocean to nurse his wounds. Then the evil monster, using his one super power, destroys all of Kobe, Osaka, or Tokyo (sometimes all three). The stunned adults deliberate in hilariously dubbed over English (where the mouth/word synchronozation is a mile off) about what to do. Then one or two young boys, ranging from ages 7-13, actually take some intiative and suggest the most obvious thing, which is to call for Gamera, but the adults don't listen , and they drop an atomic bomb on the evil monster. The A-Bomb always fails in killing the evil monster. Then, a fully healthy Gamera arrives on the scene to victorious music playing in the background, and after about 10 minutes of trash talking beween the monsters, Gamera beats the shot out of the bad monster, and all of Japan is safe again.

Really, these movies are so bad, that they actually turn into really hilarious, good movies. They're cheap looking special effects and monsters are just so much fun to watch. The Mystery Science Theate team would have a fied day with any of these movies.

The first of the series. The only time Gamera was a "bad guy". Pretty entertaining stuff.

More of the same. Gamera must battle the evil Barugon, whose special power is he can freeze stuff with his protruding, frog-like tounge. Pretty decent movie.

The funniest one out of the whole bunch. Gamera must battle the evil bat, Gaos. All Gaos can do is flap his wings when anything gets in his way, and shoot a little heat ray from his glowing green cave. He dies because Gamera holds him out long enough in the sun.

Gamera's mind gets taken over by a spaceship full of humans turned servants for the evil squid monster. Some really funny moments, but not as good as the others.

The worst one. Gamera's enemy, a stupid looking rhinocrerus, reminded me of the that annoying tomboy rhinocerous in The Land Before Time movies. Just a dumb kids movie.
