It is hard not to be excited by this fiercely idiosyncratic approach to protest filmmaking and Gandu gleefully tramples all expectations of Indian culture.

a vibrant provocation, aimed at showing a side of Bengali life that has never been seen, while all at once mimicking and mocking the punkish rebel spirit of its cause-less protagonist, lost in his own 'complete head fuck'.

Audience Reviews for Gandu

the movie adds an different essence to the Indian movie culture. if you hope to see it as a story based or plot based film you will have to watch it close enough.then only you can discover a plot. well its not very strong enough to put up a fight against indian movie culture. but still it has a plot.

coming to the story at first you have to remember its a rebel-ism against the conservative indian movie culture and it scores a lot there. [Well at points it may seem a bit more exaggerated amplification of nudity. But it actually depicts a commoner's thought and fantasy over sexuality. So it can be considered].

well , the story is about a loser who cant stand for himself. he writes rap lyrics with abusive languages, and he earns nothing. at this point he meets with a rickshaw wallah (rickshaw is a kind of vehicle used in india, bangladesh). with him he steps in a world of drug addiction. one day after having a fight with his mother rickshaw wallah (here named as rickshaw) gives him drug again. after that his life changes completely.. in my opinion the world does not change but in his illusive view (by drug addiction) made it look like the world around him has turned with a twist of fate. Thats all ..

so, according to my opinion it does not have a very powerful plot but it has a very strong approach in breaking the conservative view of Indian movie culture...
and it also show how Indian lifestyle has transformed throughout the time. So may be its not a very good watch but definitely a first watch wonder..
