I liked this movie. Yes, it wasn't perfect, and no, it's not on par with the classic gangster films, but what I got from Gangster Squad was an entertaining and fun action crime film. Ruben Fleischer did a good job directing the movie and is one of the best new directors out there. The man did Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less, two very entertaining movies he directed, and I thought this film was good as well.
I thought it was entertaining. I'm surprised people have SUCH a negative view of it. It's certainly not on par with the classic gangster movies. However, I did like the cartoonish/ Sin City like feel to it. I thought Penn, Brolin, Gosling and Stone were fantastic. Old school meets new school. I'd recommend it for 1 watch.
I agree, I like the cast. I really liked how stylized it was too, it was something new. I know it's not Goodfellas or anything like that but it was entertaining enough.
Obviously everyone here does care about what critics have to say, including your self, because we are all registered on a website devoted to critics reviews.
I do. Besides, just because a movie has a strong cast doesn't automatically mean it's a good movie. To be a good movie, it needs a good script, a strong vision, good direction, the right actors and actresses for the roles, and so on.
Just saw it, it sucks. Gangsta boys place a wire tap walking straight into biggest gansta in town and start destroying sean penn property. Doesn't make whole lot of sense story wise. Gangsta look like newbies..Older age group might like it..
I'm over 60 years old and I don't know anyone who listens to critics. Critics don't even need to exist as far as I'm concerned. I only read what the people write about movies and even then, their opinions don't sway me either way.
It's cast is great, but that means crap. Was All The King's Men any good? And you ask if anyone cares what critics say, I'll answer by saying 'apparently because you and all users have an account on a website devoted to the opinions of critics.'
i don't think that big names are a guarantee for a good movie. I'm not saying this movie sucks (cause i didn't see it yet). Giving critics is always easy, as a critic u throw in a few big words and done....some people follow what a critic has to say about it, and if that is bad some will believe those critics... In my opinion is the only thing that counts in a movie for me is: did I enjoyed it. Look how many blockbusters have a "lower" rate due to critics, at the end of the day it's only u who need to decide if the movie was bad or not. ;-)
If people read reviews or follow critics without the ability to rationalize and interpret on their own, the fault is with them, not the critics.
Also, no, critics don't just throw in a few big words and then submit their reviews. That's a strawman fallacy you're committing.
It's fine if you don't like to analyze movies and perceive them in very simplistic terms, and it's fine if you don't care for critics.
But you should know that most people read reviews by critics to help them make their own decision. Critics are just guides, and readers can pick and choose whom they follow, which reviews they read or ignore, and which ones they give more weight to.
You and plenty of others act as if readers aren't acting of their own free will when they read reviews.
Critics are only as influential as people allow them to be.
