The singing cowboy took a break from his B-movie westerns for this big-budget production, with Autry's expected musical forays augmented by songs from Mexican duo the Herrera Sisters. When a couple of movie producers, Gibson (Sidney Blackmer) and Allen (Joe Sawyer), descend on Sage City claiming they want to shoot a movie there, they give the townspeople one stipulation: the citizens must ante up the production costs. When Gene and Frog (Smiley Burnette) catch on, they run the crooks right out of town and over the border. There, they must prove to a wealthy Mexican rancher and his beautiful daughter that the "producers" have intentions only of the criminal variety. [More]
