But even with a new lover, her sadness remains. The two men are utterly baffled, until a neighbor offers an invaluable insight: might Solange want a baby? It turns out that she does, but after numerous attempts, neither husband nor lover succeeds in impregnating her. Then, one afternoon, the three head off on a field trip and Solange meets Christian, a precocious 13-year-old whiz kid who manages to get her into bed. Finally, with this boy, Solange finds contentment. But Christian's horrified parents immediately attempt to ship him off to boarding school.
