'Twas a nasty gray Thursday morn in San Francisco, so what better way to get a work-related upper than checking our inboxes and finding the comfortingly stern visages of Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway? Or, at least, part of Hathaway's. We're talking about the new Get Smart poster, which Rotten Tomatoes has recieved an exclusive first peek at and have eminently displayed below.
Click for the hi-res version.
Based on ye olde (the '60s) television show co-created by Mel Brooks, Carrell stars as Maxwell Smart, a recently promoted clumsy secret agent man, along with Hathaway, who plays Smart's competent partner. As employees of CONTROL, the two team up to deal with the infernal machinations of KAOS, the arch-nemesis society hell-bent on world domination.
Get Smart is out in theaters June 20, with an MPAA rating of PG-13 for "some rude humor, action violence and language."

on Mar 27 2008 12:04 PM WHOA. THAT is a testament to star power when you're willing to obscure the official 'HOT CHICK's face in the movie poster. THAT is impressive clout and faith in your star's drawing power. I can't imagine Carrell demanded that, though. Probably the marketing dept. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 12:09 PM Carrell's a good choice. Maybe he can team up with Steve Martin's "Pink Panther"! And throw in "Mr. Bean"! Wouldn't that be exciting? Does anyone seriously think this will work? The chances of it being a new "Austin Powers" are slim. This will probably be stupid. Carrell doen't need this after "Evan Almighty". I actually liked him in "Dan in Real Life". Maybe he can do "43 Year-Old Virgin" if this doesn't work out. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 12:43 PM Can't get much uglier than that for a poster. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 12:45 PM Hahaha, don't you guys get it? In the first poster, Anne Hathaway's hair was blowing in the air and covering Carell's face. Now he got her back by having his tie get blown into her face. It's showing their playful childish rivalry. I'm definitely gonna see this movie. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 01:08 PM duck why not bother to read the comment before yours? (Reply to this) |
![]() on Mar 27 2008 01:11 PM The message the poster is sending is that the movie is a comedy. In comedies, you can have a tie slap someone in the face. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 01:35 PM wtf? the original teaser was the exact opposite with her hair obscuring carrell and effectively making her look beautiful and him look like a dork. that was funny. this is just stupid. not that he has any control over the ads but peter segal is not making me feel better about CAPTAIN www. on Mar 27 2008 01:47 PM The reaction to this poster is hilarious. "I don't understand the meaning behind the tie being in her face. I call sexism!!!! Someone get me Hillary Clinton!" Really? People "don't get" the poster? This movie looks like a mixed bag, though. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Mar 27 2008 01:47 PM In reply to this comment (#1655851) The other poster is her hair covering his face. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 02:19 PM It really pisses me off how people don't read the comments b4 adding their own. *cough* duckmanx88 *cough* Arguing on the internet is like pro football--even if you win, you're still an idiot (my apologies to any pro football players out there). (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 03:43 PM If anyone has noticed these movies never work. They are either lame or too kiddy for adults who would actually like to see something entertaining. Think about it, these movies always have the clumsy, dumb detective with a smart male/female partner who always saves his *** when something starts to go wrong. This is just another "Tuxedo", "The Cleaner" and maybe even the worse "The Pink Panther". Really think about it and look at the MPAA rating and tell me what do you think? (Reply to this) |
![]() on Mar 27 2008 04:31 PM A nice reversal. In the first poster, her hair was covering his face. Now her face is obscured by his tie. Clever. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 27 2008 04:34 PM i enjoyed the trailer. i think carrell is an excellent choice for this role. i do question the decision to bring this franchise to the screen, given that it's been done to death (though, to be fair, many of the films we've been citing drew inspiration from get smart and the pink panther movies), and my hopes are not high that the writing will be terribly original. and this poster is boring. as for the rating, jmo2ski--really, does anyone think that, based on the original series and its reboot in the early '90s, that the premise justifies an R-rating? the only thing they would do with an R-rating is make stupid, juvenile jokes that would probably make the movie suck harder. on Mar 28 2008 07:19 AM In reply to this comment (#1656420) uhm, ..yeah. I *get* all that. I am -now- also aware of there being a poster where her features obscure his. My point remains the same- it's an interesting marketing risk, when all you have on an ad poster is two bust shots of the stars (and No other action), to block either of their faces, i.e., their chief marketing value. Especially the 'hot chick' when there are no other female features on display (sounds sexist but extremely true; breasts/legs sell). (Reply to this) |

on Mar 28 2008 07:33 AM This is a comedy, probably trying to appeal to families and older viewers too (who remember Get Smart). I don't think scantily clad women would sell for that audience. I think the poster is supposed to be tongue in cheek, as is the movie. This looks more funny than either Mike Myers or Eddie Murphy's upcoming summer flicks, which look to be potential bombs. Carell is hot right now, his humor will work for this movie and give it mass appeal. (Reply to this) |
