"Ghostbusters 3" Comes Back to Life ... Again
There's been talks of a "Ghostbusters 3" for at least two decades now, and the thing never seems to get past the "Bill Murray doesn't want to do it" stage (yet the guy does two "Garfield" movies?), but director Harold Ramis recently spoke about the long-dead project ... and how it just might not be dead after all.
From InFocus Magazine as reported by IGN FilmForce: "Ramis reportedly wants franchise vets Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis to reprise their respective roles in the sequel, which the report claims will be called Ghostbusters in Hell, but he has his eye on A-lister Ben Stiller to star as a new Ghostbuster."
"What Danny had originally conceived was sending us to a special-effects hell, a netherworld full of phenomenal visual environments and boiling pits," Ramis revealed. "But what works so well about the first two (films) is the mundane-ness of it all. So my notion was that hell exists in the same place as our consensus reality, but it's like a film shutter. It's the darkness between the 24 frames."

on May 17 2006 06:15 AM Dang it! The Ghostbusters 2 was as bad as the first movie was good. Bill Murray was right not to make a third one, he's the only one with good sense. I think more than anything, I'm mad at the possibility of Ben Stiller being in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Ben Stiller movies, but Ghostbusters is not a "Ben Stiller" kind of movie. on May 17 2006 08:13 AM IF this gets made, i doubt Ben Still will be billed as the main star (although I could be wrong). he may not be as much of an over actor in it, he will probably be like his character in Meet the Parents or something, which would be a LOT more tolerable. (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 08:27 AM All bad ideas, all along. And this is from someone who liked Ghostbusters 2. I wouldn't mind if they made GB3 provided they 1. had the original, complete cast, 2. didn't go to hell, 3. didn't cast Ben Stiller. A new guy is good, hey, fine, no problem. But wow does Ben Stiller just not belong here. It's a completely different kind of comedy. (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 08:39 AM A long time ago, I read that they wrote it for Chris Farley, who has passed on. Then I heard they re-did it for Will Smith. Now Ben Stiller is involved? I love both of the films. I have nothing against it. As for the plot about Hell, well, if they think it will work. They did make the Statue of Liberty walk in the 2nd. (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 09:22 AM I'm not saying Ghostbusters 3 should be made . . . but if it's gotta happen, what of the possibility of having some(or all) of the original ghost-busting team busy training the "next generation" of 'busters? Despite whatever new "hell" story they've thought up . . . if they get some charismatic new actors to be trainees . . . maybe there'd be a chance of reviving the franchise while omitting the money problems that have plagued it. Also, you can skip past the "I'm too old for this %#%$!" phase that is so mandetory but always bothersome and un-heroic for the characters we've grown to love. And before anybody begins hating the idea (saying that no one can replace the original Ghostbusting team) . . . what if I just float the name "Steve Carell" out there? I mean, basically what you need are actors who can be naturally funny without "forcing" the comedy, right? (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 09:26 AM I think the answer is Ghostbusters VS Freddy VS Jason in a triple threat match (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 11:02 AM In reply to this comment (#835937) Zen Bullet You are a loser. Have you ever seen The Office? I relate you to Dwight(or Gareth). Do you attend a dojo btw? Look man, quit looking at this like it's a fucking RPG or whatever the hell you call it. This is real life, buddy. Guys like Harold Ramis don't sit around and think about "reviving this great franchise and bringing greatness back to the Ghostbuster name". They do this shit because they want to and will have fun at it. Again, this isn't like playing Axis & Allies so just relax on your whole conniption on who's cast in GB3. p.s. you are quite possibly the millionth person to 'float' Steve Carrell's name "out there" (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 11:37 AM Looks like Zen Bullet got it on with Starvin's sister and mother at the same time while daddy filmed it all. I mean, that would explain the seemingly random outburst of, well, really random insults that make him seem like a dick. Speaking of 'conniptions', your grandmother wants her word back. ...as for GB3 - I think it will just be like Blues Brothers 2000, crappy. (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 12:43 PM awesome, get stiller, Steve Carell, wilson brothers, vince vaghn, hot female lead like kate beckinsale and im there!!! (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 17 2006 01:49 PM Also, I think Bill Murray did two "Garfield" movies based purely on an attractive paycheck-to-work ratio. Voice acting is an incredibly plush job, especially when compared with the endless days you have to put in on a live-action set. Plus, it's not really him reprising the same old character in a lame rehash (which I assume would be his issue with sequels) if his face isn't anywhere to be seen. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 17 2006 04:23 PM No Bill Murray, then there should be no sequel... I miss the old Bill Murray with the stupid yet hilarious films last really funny movie was The Man Who Knew Too Little. I'm not digging his new dark humor / really boring movies at all. Ben Stiller would actually be very funny. I'd rather see a total revamped Ghostbusters, just start over and, have Stiller, Jack Black, Adam Sandler and maybe Eddie Murphy or Bernie Mack, now that would be hilarious and good if done right. on May 17 2006 04:42 PM Unholy Combination This seems like they mixed one part "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" with an equal part of the Star Wars prequels, then sprinkled on a "Son of the Mask"-like 10+ year b/w sequels gap for good measure. If that's not a recipe for ruining fond childhood memories of the Ghostbusters, maybe we should just let John Woo direct . . . (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 06:18 PM In reply to this comment (#835935) but dude the original idea for the first ghostbusters was that they go into some weird parallel dimension full of ectoplasmic goo and slimers and apparitions and do battle there, not in the real world of NYC (Reply to this) |

on May 17 2006 10:30 PM i'd like to see the new ghostbusters movie made in a wildly serious tone, and don't let them ever find a ghost. take it out of the city and bring it to the country, deal with country folk and thier stupid superstitions about old man Garner's haunted barn. the best and funniest parts of ghostbusters was dealing with weird people who were stranger than the fictional ghosts. bill murray could get on board something like that, couldn't he? OH GOD I MISS VENKMAN (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 17 2006 11:51 PM Ghostbusters 3: Back in Training! Please no. I LOVED the first one, the second was terrible. If anything, just re-release the first one to theatres. Heck, I'd go see it. :p (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2006 06:28 PM Ben Stiller is not good. Not good at all. Seriously, bring in Jerry Stiller. He is funny. Ben Stiller is not. Anyway, although the absence of Murray does not bode well, I still have faith that Harold Ramis (very talented guy) could do this project and turn it into SOMETHING worth watching. There's always hope. (Reply to this) |

on May 19 2006 02:20 AM The Spirit Ectoplasmic Poor Mark Hamill's been offered all types of fare, but is still pidgeonholed as Luke Skywalker. Despite his age, Murray's made the wise choice to move on to explore new genres rather than beat a dead horse. GB2 was the nail in the coffin, people. Accept it. (Reply to this) |
