There have been a lot of rumors regarding the Paramount/Hasbro-produced live-action G.I Joe movie, and we've had fun discussing many of them -- but Hasbro, apparently, hasn't been enjoying the gossip as much as the rest of us.

In a "Message to G.I. Joe Fans" dated October 30, Hasbro addresses some of fans' concerns regarding G.I. Joe, assuring everyone that they "are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about" and reiterating that "the name 'G.I. Joe' will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism." From the message:

This movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit," as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

You hear that, rumormongers? Hasbro's wise to your tricks! You'd better find a new toy-to-film adaptation to spread your lies about! (We hear the He-Man movie is in need of some good gossip...)

The problem is that hasbro is removing "A real American Hero" and making Joe a part of some lame UN. Joe was always a tribute to the U.S.A and our troops. It's kind of like making the Hardy Boys anime.

Actually GI Joe is american but he works with a team made up of a diverse group of people....kinda like the UN. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle :)

We can only hope that they either let the characters be the two-dimensional cartoons that everyone loved, or that whoever fleshes them out has talent and taste. But let's not kid ourselves. It's just gonna be another instantly dated crapfest.

Sure, Duke was the lead character in the cartoons but Hawk was always the leader of GI Joe both in the comics and later in the cartoon. Get your own toy line right Hasbro.

"real american hero" is an oxymoron to most of the world. I actually think that dictatorial fascist religious zealots would fit right in under our administration. if you're anyone but a flag-waving american, you think our leaders are war criminals and the american people are even worse for doing nothing about it.

In fact the U.S. has a long history of not really minding tyrannical dictators, or religious fanatics, or pretty much anybody until they interfere with U.S. interests.

Thats the reality, folks. Saddam was an "evil" dictator because he worked against U.S. interests. Musharrif is a "good" dictator because he's our ally in Afghanistan. The actual dictator part isn't the problem as far as the U.S. government its concerned, its all about how useful you are. (Case in point: Venezuela has a socialist dictator, but it also has oil its willing to sell to the U.S.)

I wonder if they'll break the flow of the movie every 25 minutes and insert a PSA warning about inhaling spraypaint, playing in washing machines, or looking both ways before crossing the street.

I hope they do. Then this movie will be patriotic and kid friendly. EVERYONE WINS!! YAY!!!
