on Nov 06 2007 07:27 AM The problem is that hasbro is removing "A real American Hero" and making Joe a part of some lame UN. Joe was always a tribute to the U.S.A and our troops. It's kind of like making the Hardy Boys anime. Give me a break... (Reply to this) |

![]() on Nov 06 2007 07:49 AM In reply to this comment (#1257896) Actually GI Joe is american but he works with a team made up of a diverse group of people....kinda like the UN. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle :) (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 07:56 AM This won't work at all. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Nov 06 2007 08:00 AM We can only hope that they either let the characters be the two-dimensional cartoons that everyone loved, or that whoever fleshes them out has talent and taste. But let's not kid ourselves. It's just gonna be another instantly dated crapfest. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 08:21 AM In reply to this comment (#1258190) They are all part of an American Special Missions force. The best of the USA military. The US is a diverse country much like the team. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 09:03 AM " Actually GI Joe is american but he works with a team made up of a diverse group of people....kinda like the UN." So, in essence it's going to be like Street Fighter: The Movie? (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 09:23 AM In reply to this comment (#1258526) Only if you're a tyrannical dictator, a religious terrorist, a violent communist, a fascist, or a slaver. Are you any of those things? America's far from perfect, but "evil empire" says more about you than America. Yo Joe! (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 09:50 AM I wonder if the lazer/bullets will be color coded like the cartoon. That would be amusing... (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 09:55 AM Sure, Duke was the lead character in the cartoons but Hawk was always the leader of GI Joe both in the comics and later in the cartoon. Get your own toy line right Hasbro. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Nov 06 2007 10:04 AM In reply to this comment (#1258578) Bush is only 4 out of 5 of those things. Must be hard to be objective when part of the Evil Empire. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 10:09 AM In reply to this comment (#1258578) "real american hero" is an oxymoron to most of the world. I actually think that dictatorial fascist religious zealots would fit right in under our administration. if you're anyone but a flag-waving american, you think our leaders are war criminals and the american people are even worse for doing nothing about it. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 11:50 AM In reply to this comment (#1258578) Well, Musharrif in Packistan is a tyrannical dictator, but he's an ally in the "war on terror." In fact the U.S. has a long history of not really minding tyrannical dictators, or religious fanatics, or pretty much anybody until they interfere with U.S. interests. Thats the reality, folks. Saddam was an "evil" dictator because he worked against U.S. interests. Musharrif is a "good" dictator because he's our ally in Afghanistan. The actual dictator part isn't the problem as far as the U.S. government its concerned, its all about how useful you are. (Case in point: Venezuela has a socialist dictator, but it also has oil its willing to sell to the U.S.) (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 12:32 PM I wonder if they'll break the flow of the movie every 25 minutes and insert a PSA warning about inhaling spraypaint, playing in washing machines, or looking both ways before crossing the street. I hope they do. Then this movie will be patriotic and kid friendly. EVERYONE WINS!! YAY!!! (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 12:35 PM On second thought, screw this. Red staters live in enough denial and they don't need fictionalized accounts of uber-American greatness to persuade them that we aren't being total @$$ holes abroad and harbor global stability about as well as a bull cares for an antique store. Flag waving is great... but we would look so stupid to everyone else in the world waving our flags now. There better be a Cobra operative working in the US government compromising the government's dependability while leaving the Joes as faithfull patriotic servants, otherwise Im gonna poop in my hand and smear it on the walls. huh? (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 01:24 PM "This movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit," as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established." Translation: Ignore any bad press or buzz, it's everything you ever wanted in a GI Joe movie and is in no way a watered down globally sensitive pile of garbage directed by the same guy who directed Van Helsing. So make sure you go opening day before anyone tells you otherwise. As usual, there are no refunds. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 01:37 PM We invaded a country against the world's wishes & destabilized a region, we're by far the fattest country in the world, we can't handle our natural disasters in this country anymore (New Orleans & San Diego), our President believes he was placed there by 'God,' and our economy is equal to Canada right now. Canada. Canada has as much purchasing power as us. CANADA! If you still think America is the only thing that matters, you're going to be suffering a very bad reality check the next few years. on Nov 06 2007 04:17 PM In reply to this comment (#1259096) Actually we invaded a country with the largest multinational force in history after getting a UN Resolution. You can agree or disagree with the Iraq war, but this revisionist history that the US went in alone and illegally is complete BS. San Diego was a spectacular success--the largest fire and evacuation in CA history and fewer people died than in a standard heatwave. I live there and was evacuated 3 times with over 6 hours warning each in spite of hurricane force winds driving the flames. And will this UN GI Joe be a child rapist? That seems to be what UN troops are best h Hmmm...seems that's a way worse scandal than abu ghraib. Odd it never gets reported. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 05:17 PM when I think of GI Joe being modernized I think of unavoidable American propaganda. I mean what countries out there seriously look at us as "real heroes"? Besides the coalition of the willing LOL. Whenever I her coalition of the willing I think of Fahrenheit 911's coalition role call. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 05:28 PM Are you guys kidding??? This is exactly what i've been waiting for! i can't wait to see two armies shooting at each other with their little tracer round laser rifles and no one getting hit. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 05:52 PM In reply to this comment (#1259288) You're kidding right? I think G.I Joe would say you've already lost half the battle. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 06 2007 05:56 PM It's funny to see right-wing television and radio show hosts get pissed off at this. They don't know dick about G.I. Joe, they just want something they can spin to their audience. It's pathetic. Anyway, hope the movie is good. Since they're mentioning the comics, I have some hope for this. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 06 2007 08:53 PM That fact that many of you can so freely express your views and opinions on our current government is completely counter-intuitive to the dictatorial evil empire you claim you live under. Sounds more like a bunch of rich kids complaining about how their mommy and daddy are too strict. The US government is far from perfect, but in the words of John Stossel, "give me a break." (Reply to this) |
![]() on Nov 07 2007 04:05 AM i use to play with GI joes even when it was pushing the border of "you still play with toys" the GI joe Kungfu grip revolutionized action figures gone were the early days of stiff armed Star Wars figures not that those were not great days but Joe's were incredible and the choice of weponery and never having to worry about getting stuck with some lame princess lea figure when they were getting doled out (the chicks in GI Joe were pretty hot and could kick a-s) I hope they use Destro he would look cool in a live action film and i would have Jet Li bulk up and play Storm Shadow and Snake eyes both. and fill out the rest of the cast accordantley I I dont know what story line they would do but im sure someone will figure it out (Reply to this) |

on Nov 07 2007 07:12 AM This film will run counter to the spirit of GI Joe if no one ejects and parachutes from a plane right before it blows up. If anyone dies in a jetplane fight, I'm gonna scream "AAWWW THAT'S BULLSHEIT"! Course I'll do so at home when UN Joe comes to DVD, cuz I'm not spending my duckets on this in a theater... (Reply to this) |

on Nov 07 2007 07:54 AM The Good News: I don't think this movie is going to be any more driven by Right-wing neocon propaganda than any other movie released, i.e., the amount of pro-USA rhetoric is going to be motivated precisely by what the suits in Hollywood think will put butts in the seats, not wat Retarded Monkey-Child (Bush) or Skeletor (Cheney) want them to. The Bad News: These are the same hollywood suits that allowed Batman & Robin, Catwoman, and ALL of Kevin Costner's vanity flicks (Waterworld? the Postman!?!? are they F#cking KIDDING!?). This movie has just as much chance to suck as anything else even if there's NO politics involved. And just because I can't resist: The current US Government, from balls-less Dem's in the Congress to Retarded Monkey Child (see prev) in the office, SUCKS HAIRY GOAT A#S and I AM doing something about it: I'm spreading the word and voting. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 07 2007 08:25 AM Also, don't forget that the US (despite it's flaws) is the greatest most generous country in the history of the human race. Also, step outside the country yourself sometime and you will find the US is the most idolized country in the world. Even as far as Albania you see kids wearing the red white and blue. So our enemies still hate us, oh well. I for one think our military US men and woman are heroes and should be treated as such. That was the origin of the GI Joe line and that's how it should stay. I appreciate traveling and enjoying foreign cultures. How about keeping some of our own culture alive? Pretty soon apple pie and baseball will be gone as well. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 07 2007 11:53 AM I can appreciate attempts to save aspects of our own culture, but I don't think people getting pissed over the Joes being international really care about that. Their agenda is one of nationalism (not to be confused with patriotism) and xenophobia. They want an exclusively Norman Rockwell America with no influence from outside cultures. They don't want to understand other cultures, even the ones that are good (and make no mistake about, there are good and evil cultures). The "international Joes" is just porn for these people, as it gives them an excuse to spout their rhetoric and preach to their supporters. The way I see it, this is a good idea. Different cultures coming together to stop a group they ALL hate--Cobra--is a good message and a relevant one too. Besides, it's not like all the members of Cobra were non-Americans. In fact, a large deal of the members DID seem to be American. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 07 2007 12:08 PM The American way is to embrace cultures and spread freedom throughout the world. The GI Joe ideal was that of American Heroes fighting for freedom and ending terrorism. The GI Joe's even teamed up with special forces from other countries during the cold war (like the Russians October Guard). The Joe team consisted of all races much like the US. They were also all of America's best. Cobra also consisted of many races and was formed in the US. Why not keep it that way. Shouldn't some American fiction contain US heroes and US villians? That seems like a fresh idea to me. The US military isn't perfect but their track record is a lot better than the UN. The UN has mostly stood by and let Aids and Malaria wreak havoc in Africa... they are not heroes in my book. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Nov 07 2007 01:48 PM In reply to this comment (#1260801) Bull****. The "American way" is to piss on the little guy and other cultures while taking there money and making you think we're helping. And most generous my ***! We are so generous we are still trying to clean up katrina. Charity starts at home. How can we help others and we can't get our own **** together. No one is saying thats there is not any US heroes in the damn movie just that the whole team isn't american. And the military isn't the problem. The military is a weapon and the one who weilds it is that retarded monkey-child aka darth vader aka bush jr and the freakin Emporer himself (cheney). I love america but don't act like spreading freedom is american. What is american is running to freedom on your own accord. The statue of liberty says "bring us you poor..." not "We'll come take over if your poor". And Who the hell are we to say someone elses ways are wrong. Right now the American way is eating and watching the idiot tube while outsourcing because its cheaper. Anyway, I hope they have a kickass GI ninja vs cobra ninja fight. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Nov 07 2007 01:54 PM In reply to this comment (#1260801) Oh and the UN record may not be great but at least they did as a team (sound familiar) rather than blowing smoke up peoples *** to gain false support for a war on an never ending taget (terror). Just like the war on drugs, it will never end because as long as people exsist there is going to be differences, which lead to disputes, which lead to people feeling hurt, which leads to retaliation, which is definded by the one being attacked as terrorism. (Reply to this) |

on Nov 07 2007 02:01 PM Isn't America fighting enough wars that we don't need to start making movies about fake ones? Or are we trying to give the President an alternative to invading Iran. Bush: "Snakes." Entire Cabinet: "Snakes? Sir...?" Bush: "That's right. Snakes, Cobras to be exact. They hate us for our freedom, and they are totally creepy. Some can even spit venom, and we can't let any foreign power posses weapons of that magnitude." Entire Cabinet: (to each other) "Will we get fired if we say anything? Shut up stupid, just nod and agree. (Out loud) Sir, intelligence indicates that there are snakes in Iran." Cheney: "Groovy." (Reply to this) |

on Nov 07 2007 02:56 PM In reply to this comment (#1261133) Ok, what nation in history has given more than the US? Also, which country would you rather live in? (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 07 2007 03:12 PM In reply to this comment (#1261133) By the way in regards to your Katrina remarks...thousands of Americans have been coming from all over the nation to help rebuild and put the Coast together. I went there myself to help and even with thousands and thousands of volunteers it will still take another 10 years for life to be normal there. The American people are generous and giving and despite your brainwashing the majority of the people in this country are good people. Nobody likes war and I am not a fan of Bush either but I don't see how he can be a retarded Monkey and an evil genius at the same time. (Reply to this) |

SECONDLY: FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT CALL AMERICA AN EVIL EMPIRE AND THROW OUT UNRESEARCHED "FACTS" ABOUT THE HEINOUS CRIMES AMERICAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BITE ME! THIRDLY: IF YOUR GONNA HARP ON ABOUT HOW BAD AMERICA IS, TRAVEL ABROAD AND "LIVE" IN OTHER COUNTRIES FOR A WHILE BEFORE YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO MAKE SUCH VENOMOUS REMARKS (NO PUN INTENDED) People, for those of you here that are Americans please use the free speech granted to you by your country more resoponsibly. on Nov 19 2007 01:20 PM I'm 30 years old, i actually watched the original cartoons when they were on television, and own a good portion of the comics. Some things you all may not know... 1. Duke was the original leader of G.I.Joe. It wasnt until season 2 that they brought in General Hawk. They probably wont use alot of Season 2 characters, and will focus on season 1. G.I.Joe 2 will maybe have the season 2 guys.. 2. Transformers was the same thing... a cartoon from the 80's with a large enough fan base, and interest that they made a live action movie. We all know how that movie is doing on the all-time sales charts... G.I. Joe was, arguably, even more popular then Transformers. In the 80's, and throughout the years... 3. The movie, Tranformers used only 1 voice actor from the original cartoon(as far as i know), Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime. If any of you are like me, you will want the voices of Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, The Baroness, Zartan, Shipwreck, Dusty, and the rest of them to be the well known voices we have come to love.. Watch the cartoons, they all have their distinct, loveable voices..From my web research, The man who voiced Cobra Commander(also StarScream in the Transformers cartoon) died in the 90's. Will they allow the actors to use their own voices, or wil the try to mirror the original voices? Perhaps they will enlist a good majority of the voice actors from the original cartoon. Look up voice actors and G.IJoe, you'd be suprised at how many of them still work today in cartoons and video games. Maybe im making too big of an issue on their voices, but ALL of these well known characters must have their original voices. How that works with a live action movie, its hard to say... 4. G.I. Joe worked with the UN, alot. They are their own force however. In the cartoons, they didnt work with the U.N. as often as in the comics. Either way, that should'nt really matter in the scheme of things. 5. The premise, "Real American Hero" as well as the cartoon, the toys, and comics, all came in the 80's, during the Cold war. Ronald Reagan was president, Rocky was popular, Born in the USA rocked the music charts, and patriotism was at an all time high. If its going to be a modern G.I.Joe and Cobra, perhaps Cobra uses this modern world view of the United States to its advantage. 6. As quoted from Entertainment Weekly magazine, "Paramount though, asked Stuart Beattie to dash out a script for G.I. Joe-one of the studios planned 2009 tentpoles-in just seven weeks. "Oh God, no, you cant write a film like that in seven weeks," he says, nervous about launching a franchise on a rushed draft. "A year and a half would have been good." Later in the paragragh... "Unless Peter Jackson is planning to let his actors improvise all of the film Tintin or Michael Bay can shoot Transformers 2 without any plot or dialogue(hey, it worked for the first one), they may have to wait until 2010." So, finally, a rushed script, a live action movie with actors, (not the original voice actors that we have come to know and love), and much speculation, could spell doom to this project. And you wonder why it took so long. The idea has been floating around for over 20 years. After the success of Transformers, someone felt the time was right. All I can say is the characters better have their voices that we have come to know and love, and not real voices from todays actors. Unless they can acuratly get the voices mimiced, the movie wil be a flop in my eyes.. (Reply to this) |
|
on Nov 19 2007 01:25 PM In reply to this comment (#1289242) the entertainment weekly quote is from an article about the writers strike. A bunch of movies scripts were probably pushed out before the strike began. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 04 2007 08:17 PM In reply to this comment (#1258966) This is true of any country, it's called reality. Quite a few countries have interests in seeing the US decline in power, hence they play the "can't we all get along" card and act as if they believe the I am a citizen of the world bull**** that most ignorant liberal american's believe in. If it was China in the mid-east, we would be on the flipside suckeling at the U.N.'s teat. (Reply to this) |
