Now that Paramount's given it the green light, Stephen Sommers' live-action G.I. Joe project is wasting no time getting down to the business of casting its leads.

Variety reports that Sienna Miller has signed on to "play the film's female lead, described as a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage."

Sienna Miller in Factory Girl.

According to Variety, the film has been given a mid-February start date, and will be released on August 7, 2009. The G.I. Joe synopsis, from the article:

Story is set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer.

Sienna Miller in black leather. yum.

Man, this story sounds like Street Fighter, the movie, with the global attack force. Ugh.

"SCOTTISH ARMS DEALER" = Cobra Commander???

Still no real desire to see this movie (I preferred Transformers as a kid, and I still didn't see that movie), but Sienna Miller can make any guy fall in love with blondes all over again.

See L4YER CAKE if you want to drool over Sienna, btw. High-cut black lingerie and stockings set to the Rolling Stones.

Sienna the Baroness? I would have rather seen Famke or Milla jovovich in this role.
Sienna could have been Scarlet or even Lady Jaye

I think "raven-haired baroness" kinda clues you in to who she's playing. L4YER CAKE is def the movie to check out Sienna in. Oh. my. god.

Destro is the Scott, huh? He didn't sound that way in the cartoon.

James McCullen Destro. He was Scottish in the Larry Hama-scripted comic book, which has been measured scientifically, under laboratory conditions, to be 17.8 times more awesome than the cartoon. He took off the helmet around ish #100 and turned out to be a dashing-looking Sean Connery type. For reals.

what in the world is this?! Didn't Hasbro announce a while back that all those rumours were untrue about G I Joe being based in Brussels etc etc?!?!?!? That article was on RT not even a few weeks back!

Hasbro stated that the G I Joe team would be based in the Pit, and would be decidedly American, like in the comics/cartoons! How come they backtracked?! Did they backtrack?! Is this just another rumor started by some magazine who didn't know what Hasbro had announced?!

I'll take all this with a pinch of salt! :-P

Besides, doesn't it appear obvious that they don't know what they're talking about?! "play the film's female lead, described as a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage." RIGHT!!

Female lead, baroness! definitely not talking about G I Joe, are they?! :-P

the girl is an asset to the movie, but please!!! don't f...up the movie, get your s...t togheter, COBRA COMMANDER MUST be the leader of the cobra org. Destro is the guy that supplies the wepons. GIJOE must be an AMERICAN HERO based in the PIT, and don't you even think of cutting out snake-eyes and storm shadow or this movie will suck big time!!!
note: what about Willem Dafoe to play the CC!!he could pull off the part...

This movie has potential to be SICK if it is done right... I agree that Milla Jovovich should have been casted for Baroness and Willem Dafoe to play the CC.
