A REVIEW BY SAM.V

Although this movie was recently slammed by most critics and rotten tomatoes...i for one recommend you all watch this movie...

so basically by the looks of the promos and trailers, I think we all know the plot.
It may not be a solid one but is much better than that for of the first one.

Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock does not eventually block the road for this flick.
He made a great Joe and was quick in the action sequences

Even though Channing Tatum as Duke was killed off in the beginning of the movie, his presence was felt. His relationship and chemistry with Dwayne in the beginning is quite an eye-opener.It brings up a lot of smiles.

Almost Wonder-Woman Adrianne Pallicki as Lady Jaye showed that she can pull off neat stunts with ease as well as look very sexy on screen.

D.J Cotrona as Flint was pretty ok and did what he had to do.

One may go for this movie as a fan of legend Bruce Willis. He is funny and bad-ass in the movie even though his screen-time was nothing compared to Dwayne Johnson. His chemistry with Adrianne is amusing!

The ninjas, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park and Elodie Yung did what they had to do which was non-stop mayhem! The cliff side battle in the mountains was obviously the best part of the entire film.

Jonathon Pryce also stole the show as Zartan and the President. Ray Stevenson was awesome as Firefly in the prison-break scene, has a couple of good brawls with Roadblock and has a cool death scene. It is very hard not to smile when you see the cool new look of Cobra Commander and looks as evil as ever.

RZA as the blind master is a drawback. His scenes were useless and pathetic but it was okay since he was there only for about five minutes.

The background score is pretty okay and adds to the fast action scenes. It may not be able to catch up with the movie but still works.

The action sequences are simply amazing! the cliff side battle, like i said, was awesome including the prison-break scene and the climax. The film opens with a bang...

Destro probably dies which may dissapoint hard-core fans.

Zartan's death scene could have been extended.

Many scenes were cut from the film.

The 3D is very good and worth the money. It adds charm to the movie

Those who want films with perfect acting, emotional episodes, romance( which is hardly even there) may not like this movie.

It has is breath-taking action, witty one-liners, brief chemistry between the stars and complete mayhem and destruction of London!

I appreciate the way this review was written. The review itself had a slight climatic moment when he drops that Destro probably dies, & Zartan dies. I didn't know that; I only knew of Duke getting offed. I don't mind the spoilers, honestly, and it was a great review. I intend to see this movie tomorrow, while my wife is at work, and just kick back and enjoy the ride. My childhood favorite toys and cartoons on screen trying to win a GI:Joe vs Cobra mission, that mission is to clean up what happened in Rise of the Cobra. Kidding, it wasn't that bad, I enjoyed it, but it did take liberties with characters and plot. Ripcord was horribly miscast. This time, I'm getting the vibe that GI:Joe Retaliation has much more action, violence, fights, gadgetry, etc than the previous film, so that's a +1. I love that my childhood toys are being acted by professional actors, in most cases. The Rock as Roadblock had me iffy at first, but the more I see him in the promos, the more I know he is perfect. He needs to have a cook reference thrown in the movie to make it complete. His third specialism on his bio card was Cook(at least back in the 80's). Be funny if they mention that. Ray Park is perfect for Snake Eyes. Why we haven't seen more of him in Marvel or DC flicks is puzzling to me. I had a feeling the Flint character would be so-so; I was never huge fan of Flint on the cartoon anyways. Duke was the leader, under Hawk. Firefly & Storm Shadow are my favorite Cobra characters. Seems out of synch to throw RZA in as Blind Master. Whatever though. I hope there is some resolution in the movie, so that our other favorite new Joes's can show up in a third GI:Joe film. Shipwreck, Dusty, Iceberg, BlowTorch, Spirit & Freedom, and bring Timber in for Snake Eyes. For Cobra, bring in those circus twin acrobat dudes, Zartan's Dreadnoks, more Mindbender, bring back Baroness, & Serpentor

I never thought I'd say that I would like a G.I. Joe movie more than a guilty pleasure. Saying that, I agree with everything you said. One bad thing is that the continuity is all messed up. How did Storm Shadow live the first movie? How does Zartan get through all the security and pretend to be President for so long? But, of course, you have to expect some of this stuff going into a Hasbro movie and I did, so I then enjoyed it more then going into it thinking there wouldn't be any plot holes. It was defenitley better than the original, not that it was too hard to do that. Totally agree with you.

Not saying it was bad, but it had some issues. For example, the whole mountainside fight threw me off. I kept on wondering where the ropes were coming from and why the red ninjas just happened to have zipline equipment. Also, there wasn't a single scene in the movie that wasn't shown in the trailers already.

Another thing. Why would the override button on the suitcase cause all of these incredibly powerful, probably ridiculously expensive space weapons to self destruct? I'm not trying to hate on this movie, im just saying that it was little things like this that could have easily been solved/explained that bothered me.

I dont know why ppl think its ok and that ur supposed to keep ur expectations low for movies like these. Look at all the great comic book/cartoon-based movies that have come out over the last decade--u can keep ur expectations high for a great story, action, drama, suspense, etc and still be fulfilled. There's no reason that the Joe and Transformers movies could not have been great like X-men, Spiderman, Dark Knight, Avengers...jeez, even the original Superman movie. Both series sold out for big names, big effects, and no character development or worthwhile storyline...thats why they fail.

This has ounces of good character development especially between Duke and RoadBlock. Also, The Avengers had 5 or so movies of set up.
Rise of Cobra didn't fail nor did the Transformers films, they made a good amount of dough. I guess critically they failed by the critics. However, I don't trust critics now-a-days especially after watching overrated Looper. Sometimes expectation play a key role, I had high expectations for Looper and it fell flat.

With GI Joe Retaliation, I knew what to expect, a more gritty and somewhat less cartoony Joes. However, I didn't expect the moments of levity or even nods to the comic books, those were unexpected surprises.

It was just your typical sci time travel story. I could have just watched Back to the future, and Terminator
Its not a bad film but I just think its overrated for being lauded as this original film people keep craving for. There are just tonal inconsistencies and stories that just come out of nowhere (the whole rain maker thing)

Also, the time travel part of Looper was fine until the last ten minutes. The future was based off of an event that he had to create by traveling back into the past? That's a hole big enough to shove an 18-wheeler through. Looper was a colossal disappointment.

Yeah, that was a big plot hole but than it lead to the most obvious ending which was highly disappointing.

Actually, I might be in the minority here that thought that the first Transformers movie wasn't really that bad... The other ones were crap. Especially the second one. But the first one isn't as bad as everyone says it is...

First Transformers movie was awesome, and than I was sorely disappointed by its sequel.( Optimus dead for half the movie, doesn't explain clearly why they could not use that piece to revive optimize other than the fact that he is a prime). Dark of The Moon was decent, the machines actually seem to have weight, the humor is a lot more silly and it was amusing to see optimize becoming this ruthless badass.

Sometimes, I wonder if critics haunt certain directors' butts. I'd say Michael Bay is one of those. I'm not a huge Michael Bay fay (Lord knows that!), but I don't think it's fair of the critics to denounce his work because he did it. Don't get me wrong... He deserves the negative connotation that he's worked so hardly to get, but I think the critics go overboard. Same for Roland Emmerich. He deserves a lot of the crap he's received, but Anonymous was a lot better than critics would allow you to believe... In my opinion anyways. Again, I don't claim to speak for the majority, but sometimes, the critics can be quite stuck up...
