RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Shakespearean Gnomes and Alien Refugees

Summary

This week on home video, there isn't a whole lot to choose from in the New Releases department; most of the notable stuff includes collections and re-releases. This latter category is comprised of stuff like Platoon, two Ronald F. Maxwell Civil War films (Gettysburg, Gods and Generals), the Steve McQueen prison break film Papillon, and a couple of classic racing flicks (1966's Grand Prix and 1971's Le Mans), all on Blu-Ray. The brand new releases, however, consist of a teen-with-powers-on-the-run flick and an animated ode to Shakespeare... with garden gnomes. Click through for the full list! Back to Article

Finally. I've been waiting a long time to see The Dictator on Netflix. Chaplin is one of the greatest filmmakers ever, and I've heard nothing but good things about this.

Don't know about The Transformers. I love the first two seasons. But I didn't really care for the movie or anything afterwards until Optimus Prime finally came back for good. Still, maybe I'll get it if I find a good deal.

I'll be renting The Great Dictator pretty soon. As for the rest of the movies...do I need to say anything?

Gnomeo looks horrible, Number Four looks bad, Great Dictator seems interesting, the Transformers cartoon has caught my eye. Nothing for me this week. Saving my money for Prates 4 and X-Men. Plan to go on a DVD shopping spree one of these days.

It may cost a lot of money on the new Transformers TV show box set, but I'll see if I can save it for Christmas cash.

Gnomeo was good but not good enough to make my collection.

If any of Chaplin's work is available on instant for Netflix, I might just squeal like a giddy schoolgirl.

Solaris sounds interesting. I doubt I'll find it at any local sellers though...

It's very good, but like any Tarkovsky, requires one to be in the mood for it.

Couple of good Blu Rays, but that's it. Transformers might be a good addition to the Christmas list.

I Am #4 was ok, decent time waster, not worth owning, but good rental time waster material. Solaris was great, definitely inspired by 2001 glacial pace and all, just a cut below 2001, but great sci-fi. Love Chaplin's work.
