De Niro and Pacino ... Back Together Again!
Fans of "The Godfather Part 2" and "Heat" may want to read this: Looks like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are about to reunite to make another crime thriller. And soon, too!
The project is called "Righteous Kill." It'll be directed by Jon Avnet ("Fried Green Tomatoes") and written by Russell Gewirtz ("Inside Man"). Plot details are sketchy, but apparently the duo will play cops chasing down a serial killer. Production is scheduled to begin in New England later this year.
The $60 million project will come from Nu Image / Millennium Films, two outfits not exactly known for "Pacino caliber" projects, but hey, if that's what it takes to get these guys back onscreen together, I'll hold my tongue for now.
"This is an event in world history," says Nu Image chief Avi Lerner, "They were in two scenes in 'Heat.' In this movie, they are in the whole thing together." Cool. So maybe it'll suck eggs, but at least two good actors will be in the same shot together.

lonechicken writes: on May 18 2007 07:11 AM I think the draw and greatness of Heat was that they were only in two scenes together. The anticipation was a nice "outside the movie" subplot. Hopefully, this project won't be the typical buddy cop movie where one guy is anal and the other is a hippy. (Reply to this) |

FireflyFan4evr writes: on May 18 2007 09:18 AM Pacino and De Niro are both great actors, but have been past their prime for a while now. Neither has been in a movie lately deserving of their talent and presence, but hopefully this is the one. However, from the looks of the plot this film looks like drek. Two cops searching for a serial killer??? NO WAY!!! I have never seen that before!!! Maybe one will be a cop like Dirty Harry and the other will be by the books and one will die at the end. That would be so original. Sorry, but I had to say that sarcasm. (Reply to this) |
