Not a bad conclusion to the series. No where near as good as the first two films.

In the third film of Francis Ford Coppola's Corleone family saga, 20 years have passed and Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) is in failing health and haunted by remorse over his brother Fredo's murder. As part of his plan for legitimizing the family business, Michael contributes a large donation to the church and accepts an honor from the pope. His nephew, Vincent (Andy Garcia), becomes his protégé with the help of Connie (Talia Shire) while his own children, Anthony (Franc D'Ambrosio) and Mary (Sofia Coppola), remain free from a life of crime. After selling his casinos and laundering his money through the Vatican, Michael attempts to take over a European-owned company, International Immobiliare. However, former mob colleagues Don Altobello (Eli Wallach) and Joey Zasa (Joe Mantegna) force his return to the underworld, and Vincent's brash temper almost starts a mob war. In Sicily, Michael instructs Vincent to form an alliance with his enemy, Don Altobello. Many of the same cast from Coppola's first two films are back in this powerful sequel. New to the series is George Hamilton, surprisingly effective as Michael's financial advisor, B. J. Harrison. [More]

Reviews for The Godfather Part III
Though certainly one of 1990's better films, it is seriously flawed and doesn't hold a candle to the two earlier Godfather movies, considered in most critical corners to be among the best, if not the best, films of the 1970s.
I think if you can take a step back from the first two movies and if you can ignore the younger Ms. Coppola, this is still a more artful and ambitious movie than the industry standard.
The Godfather Part III is a good movie, with moments of rare power, but it is not a great one -- a reason why many fans of the series have voiced their disappointment.
although not in the league with its predecessors, [it] is still an invigorating, deeply felt piece of work
It's the most reviled sequel in American cinema -- with good reason -- but this DVD casts the least-loved Godfather film in a new light.
Most film sequels are strictly optional. The Godfather Part III is inevitable, and as such it's irresistible.
Very few have stepped up to bat to defend The Godfather Part III (1990), which I consider a masterpiece and the equal of Parts I and II.
...didn't live up to expectations but turned out to be a pretty good movie in any case.
Represents a certain moral improvement over its predecessors by refusing to celebrate and condemn violence and duplicity in the same breath, or at least to the same degree.
This hits have gotten bigger, and the violence has gotten bloodier. It's less of an examination of family and more of a character piece for Michael.
