Truthfully I think people give this movie less credit than deserved, most critics just sit on their high chair and give a horrible review to any movie that doesn't quite meet the standards. The thing that I find most offensive is the little crack about Independence day, dick move
If a movie doesn't meet a critics standards for what a good movie should be, they're not going to give it a good review anyway. You can't say a movie is good just because the CGI is impressive. That doesn't make a good movie. Just look at the reviews for Godzilla. Most critics hate it and the one's who gave it a red tomato say things that basically translate to: the movie sucks but it looks pretty cool. I promise you won't find one review of Godzilla that says good things about the story or the characters because there is nothing good that can be said. Do you think there's a conspiracy in the critic community? You think all the critics in the world got together and decided they'd all hate on summer blockbusters? No. It's not the critics you should complain to, it's the filmmakers. And Godzilla is un-original. They basically made a movie inspired completely by the success of Jurassic Park and slapped the name Godzilla on it. Also, just so you know, Roland Emmerich made Independence Day and then he made Godzilla only 2 years later, so that reference wasn't a dick move.
He was probably referring to the fact that the makers of Independence Day are the same as Godzilla, so he's not actually referring to it as a bad movie, rather it's not the best that they've done.
