Originally designed to be shown in the waiting rooms of brothels, these films graphically and often shockingly reveal that there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to sex. Surprisingly well-made--despite often uncooperative costumes--these twelve films, while definitely explicit, convey a spirit of fun and humor which is absent from modern films of a similar nature. As with most porn, viewing this smut for over an hour straight is not the most exciting way to spend one's time.

This collection of rare French porn shows joyful sex when cinema was young.

The sheer perversity on display in these shorts, most of them from the 1920s, would give more than a few contemporary porn sites a run for their credit-card fees.

The film should become a prized item in certain video collections.

Provide a revealing glimpse into an earlier, if not more innocent, erotic universe.

Needless to say the quality leaves a lot to be desired but it's an educational mix of pre-Talkies explicitness and hilarity.

Above and beyond the prurient-nostalgia appeal, these films evoke an agreeably prelapsarian landscape of desire.

This may be a valuable and even amusing experience for archival giggles, but the novelty wears thin fast, as pornography always does.
