The film stars Ingrid Bergman as Paula, a luminous fortysomething interior decorator whose despair over her wealthy lover Roger's (Yves Montand) unfaithful ways drives her into the arms of a client's son, the 24-year-old Philip (Anthony Perkins). The quandary over her relationship with Roger turns into a battle against her own, and society's, conflicting view about the vast age difference between Philip and her. Philip, however, is completely taken with Paula and is insistent that their differences will be overcome by love. Before she knows it, her life has grown more complicated than ever. Bergman is wonderful in the intricate central role of Paula. [More]
