RT on DVD: Gran Torino, Crossing Over, Nobel Son Exclusive Look
Summary
This week on DVD, celebrate the big screen heroics of two former movie heroes (Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, Harrison Ford in Crossing Over) or watch Clive Owen and Naomi Watts do battle with an evil bank (Tom Tykwer's The International). If comedy is more your style, you can go low-brow (the cheerleading comedy Fired Up!) or worse: direct to DVD (the bowling comedy Strike! starring Tara Reid). Take a gamble on a twisty, stylized thriller about kidnapping and dysfunctional families (Nobel Son, starring Eliza Dushku and Alan Rickman) or take your chances with a critically panned race drama (Spinning into Butter, starring Sarah Jessica Parker). Mr. Bo Ziffer writes: on Jun 08 2009 11:02 PM Everyone I talk to says that Gran Torino was good, so I'll be sure to check that out, as well as The International. That Tara Reid movie has been on my radar for weeks! Gee, I sure hope I can find a copy! :) (Reply to this) |

thejuggernautlives writes: on Jun 09 2009 12:25 AM I loved both Gran Torino and The International, so I'll be getting those. I also have had Nobel Son at my Blockbuster for a few months. The same thing happened with JCVD. I guess Blockbuster just likes to get some of these smaller name movies earlier than everyone else. As for Nobel Son itself, it was not as good as I hoped, but is still reasonably fun and worth a watch. Also, it's too bad to hear that Crossing Over is so bad. I was originally interested by the talented cast, but then it was delayed so much and got such terrible reviews...I might still give it a shot though. (Reply to this) |

Danny G. writes: on Jun 09 2009 02:36 AM I'll definetly be picking up Gran Torino on blu-ray this week after all that i have heard about it. I might also pick up Woodstock on blu depending on the price (Reply to this) |

DKUK writes: on Jun 09 2009 09:06 AM Gran Torino wasn't as good as everybody made it out to be....I found it a bit slow and some of the acting was so bad that I wasn't sure if I was watching out takes or not....but Clint will always be Clint in my books....I just wish (even at his tender age) that he'd make one more *** kicking gun slugging movie, cos he still looks damn cool and mean and looks like he could wipe the floor with any of today's so called action stars. unbreakable_samurai writes: on Jun 09 2009 09:55 AM Gran Torino and The International were pretty good. Nobel Son really has been out everywhere for months not just at gay blockbuster. Fired Up and Crossing Over were ok, while Spinning Into Butter was just horrible and is sure to be in my 5 worst of the year. (Reply to this) |

whitey_mcwhite writes: on Jun 09 2009 10:44 AM In reply to this comment (#2511854) Yjeizz: Hey, did you see the season finale of Reaper?! What a bad place to end it! I hope it gets picked up by someone else too since CW has no idea how to market anything that's not for preteen girls, but I doubt it since Tyler Labine is now working on another show for another dead end channel: Fox. (Reply to this) |

Yjeizz writes: on Jun 09 2009 02:26 PM In reply to this comment (#2511918) whitey_mcwhite: Yea, I saw it. It was a great episode, but I do agree with you on the crappy ending. I figured if the creators knew they were getting canceled they could have at least given it some closure. But yea, I do really hope it gets picked up by another network. Comedy Central or SciFi? Anything but Fox. If they show does get picked up by another network, if Tyler Labine isn't in it I'm pretty sure Reaper will start to lose it's fanbase along with it's comedy. Damn shame. Bigbrother writes: on Jun 11 2009 03:17 PM In reply to this comment (#2511793) I love The Shield as much as the next guy, but I thought Season 7 wasn't the strongest and really didn't care for the ending. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Jun 11 2009 03:19 PM In reply to this comment (#2511918) Supernatural? I realize Padalecki and Ackles have certain appeal to pre-teen girls, but that is in every way a guy show. Hot chicks, fast cars, big guns and a classic rock soundtrack. (Reply to this) |
