I was really impressed with this series' accuracy and, despite its dry and sometimes superficial approach to its material, it never lies to its audience. The documentary recalls Greek history in a strictly chronological order, focusing on a few important personages and painting a general history of Greek culture around these biographical anchors.

The Greeks created the first democratic government, influenced philosophy, art, drama, shipbuilding, warfare, science, logic, and nearly every other aspect of civilized society. But, with their successes also came failures. Re-enactments, expert testimonies, and narration by Liam Neelson give a historical time line to the rise (and fall) of the ancient Greek empire.

Very well done chronicling of the rise, fall and rebirth of Greek empire and culture. However, even if I might like him now and again on the silver screen, Liam Neeson's narrative skills do anything but imbue this documentary with energy or enthusiasm.
