A young foreigner's quest to obtain an ever-elusive green card fuels this romantic comedy drama from first-time writer/director Bala Rajasekharuni. The film's problems are too numerous to list, but look for the boom mic at approximately 45m.
The timeliness of this subject, a lively cast and an unfamiliar setting -- Columbus, Ohio -- help offset heavy-handed melodramatics and plotting.
The result is earnest but not terribly original.
An amiable but highly didactic romantic drama.
Unhappily, the film would embarrass a first-year film student.
