"Goonies 2?" "Gremlins 3?" "Scooby-Doo 3???"
by Scott Weinberg | February 07, 2007
Discuss Article
We've been hearing all sorts of rumors about Warner Bros. unleashing a direct-to-video sequel to "The Lost Boys," and that particular project does seem to be moving forward ... but those nutty folks over at the newly-formed "Warner Premiere" simply MUST have grown up in the 1980s.

According to Moviehole.net, Warner Premiere is not only planning a "Lost Boys 2," but (allegedly) a "Goonies 2," a "New Jack City 2," a "Scooby-Doo 3," and a ... "Gremlins 3"? Really??

Now, before you get all excited, let me remind you that Warner Premiere is WB's new direct-to-video division -- so even if any of the aforementioned sequels get made, we're talking first-time directors and seriously low budgets. Maybe the Premiere folks should stay away from the big FX movies while they're just getting started. Surely a "Spies Like Us" or "Wildcats" sequel would be a smarter investment.

Ok, gremlins, well it is easy to make more of them, so it could be done.

Goonies, why bother, you have to recast everyone and the buried treasure thing is going to be hard going up against national treasure 2 and indy 4.

Scooby 3, there was a scooby 2?

Lost boys, come on the first one was a classic, but what are you gonna do without Keifer, the Corey's and Bill S. Preston, Esq.

New Jack City 2, isn't everyone in that movie dead, I mean ok so we have Judd Nelson and Ice-T left, but come on.

Little Monsters 2, Howard the Duck 2 with more duck sex, Monster Squad 2, Gleaming the Cube 2. The list goes on and on. Ok, maybe all these properties aren't owned by the WB.

If theres anything this world needs, it's more duck sex.

Besides, its a good idea for Warner Bros to make sequels to their classics (and Scooby Doo). Disney's doing a fantastic job with their new modern classics like "Cinderella 3", "The Jungle Book 2", and "Piss on Walt Disney's Grave Part IV". There's nothing audiences love better than to see their favorite childhood movies dry humped to death by out of touch studio execs and untalented film makers.

I think everyone sees how much Disney's raking in from direct-to-video sequels to their classics. Those things make $100M in video sales and rentals, according to a USA Today report. Crazy.

Way to think inside that ol' "don't rape my childhood" box. More than likely, these newcomer sequels will get newcomer casts on the cheap, complete with 20-second flavor-of-the-minute tweener pop interludes. These MBA producers may have been "80s" kids, but they're not staying "80s" for these DVDs.

Since we can't make fun of fat kids anymore there wouldn't even be a truffle shuffle in Goonie's two and what's the point of Goonie's without the Truffle Shuffle?

Wretched! I remember that a few years ago there was a script floating around for a GOONIES "prequel" which was basically a pirate film about One Eyed Willy and his crew. I'm sure this GOONIES 2 crap will just be a different group of kids in a similar situation, kind of like the straight to video SANDLOT 2. It pisses me off but I'll probably watch it... :(

As for a GREMLINS 3, they'll probably use a bunch of CG for the gremlins, and I know Joe Dante won't have any involvement. It's going to suck.

Wasn't there a rumored Goonies 2 script floating around involving the kids of the original Goonies discovering what their parents did and attempting it themselves? I could've sworn I heard something about that a few years ago and they were trying to get the original kids (now grown up) back together for a "Next Generation" type movie.

Gremlins 3? Sorry, but the first two are classic. To try a third without CGI'ing the hell out of it and ruining the fun of the first two, or not involving the original cast, would be an utter waste of time. Bring back the Gizmo merchandise, but unless its a well done big screen treatment, let those movies rest in peace. And this comes from someone who still has mint condition copies of the Hardees book and record set...lol

Scooby is already being done to death in plenty of direct to video animated crap. No reason for another live action piece of drivel. The first one was great. The second was craptacular.

As for New Jack City 2 and The Lost Boys 2...ummmm...I'm speechless at the stupidity behind those ideas.
