Bernie Mac (THE BERNIE MAC SHOW) costars as Percy Jones, a wealthy black banker who has an overbearing love for his family. Percy is about to host a lavish party at his sprawling New Jersey home in celebration of his 25-year wedding anniversary to Marilyn (Judith Scott, FLIGHT PLAN). His daughter Theresa (Zoe Saldana, THE TERMINAL) is coming home for the occasion, and she's bringing her new boyfriend, Simon Green (Ashton Kutcher, THAT 70S SHOW, PUNK'D). Theresa has neglected to mention that her new beau is white, however, and the formidable Percy is in for a surprise. Though Simon does everything in his power to impress his future father-in-law, nothing will make the imposing patriarch change his undermining disposition. Matters are further complicated because Simon has recently lost his job, and he struggles to keep the family from finding out. As unrest spreads, causing tension--and plenty of laughs--in the days leading up to the party, Simon and Theresa face uncertainty in their relationship while Percy and Marilyn suffer difficulties of their own. GUESS WHO? is full of both hilarious and cringe-worthy moments, including an incredibly tense scene where Simon is goaded into entertaining the family at dinner with black jokes. The sermonizing tone of the original film is replaced with an endearing slapstick humor, and while the heartwarming family tale is present, the film doesn't shy away from the deeper underlying issues, presenting a fresh perspective on prescient cultural foibles. Guess Who is a pleasant surprise. Ashton Kutcher’s at his most endearing and Bernie Mac is the best he’s been in a feature film.

It's funny enough, and surprisingly well-written in individual scenes, but why, in the end, does it strive for so little?

Just as Meet the Parents begat Meet the Fockers, if Guess Who turns out to be a hit, expect a sequel, Meet the Honkies, somewhere down the line.

After setting the stage with insultingly shopworn plot contrivances, Guess Who finds its comedy footing by playfully dancing along the edge of political incorrectness.

Mac is consistently funny and likeable, but the same can't be said for the rest of the cast. Without him, the movie would have been pretty much unwatchable.

Putting an interracial love story on screen may have been bold in 1967, but by now it should be more casual than it is. The skittish, focus-grouped blandness of Guess Who comes through in the flavorlessness of the romance.

It offers a few solid laughs and will provoke some smiles, but there's too much of a tendency to go for obvious, largely unfunny humor when something more subtle would have satisfied.

1st third is sharp, funny, well edited & directed. But, contrivances accumulate one after the other.

Bernie Mac easily makes up for a miscast Ashton Kutcher in a gem of comic timing.

the limited premise works for longer than it should largely due to the chemistry between its leads Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher.

The jokes may be weak, but the social context the gags broadcast with them comes in surprisingly strong.
