No, he's not saying that at all.
He's saying gay culture has a lot in common with the black culture of the time, but Shankman's reductive version, instead of celebrating this fact, actually misses this comparison.
May be next time you'll take a few moments to consider what you're reading instead of just reacting immediately to some imagined slight and firing off a reactionary, militant attack.
