The latest installment in the popular horror franchise, HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, uses a clever premise to give the legendary murderer yet another opportunity to wreak havoc on a cast of innocent characters. Back in Haddonfield, Illinois, Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes), upstart entrepreneur of Dangertainment.com, recruits six lucky college students to partake in a potentially dangerous game. Wearing miniature video cameras, the participants must spend Halloween night inside the decrepit home of Michael Myers, to the delight of Internet viewers all over the country. While most of the kids are in it for fun, fame, and fortune, Sara Moyer (Bianca Kajlich) is a glaring exception. Innocent, shy, and nervous, Sara grudgingly joins her friends Jen (Katee Sackhoff) and Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas), against her better judgment. As darkness sets in and the bodies begin to pile, it's up to Sara--aided by an Internet pen pal--to put an end to Michael once and for all (or so she thinks!). Director Rick Rosenthal (HALLOWEEN 2) and screenwriters Larry Brand and Sean Hood incorporate technology into the story, using a grainy visual approach to add another layer of creepiness to the proceedings. Reviews for Halloween: Resurrection
Good for a cheapie fright-night outing (or at least a fun rental later for your next slumber party).
Resurrection has the dubious distinction of being a really bad imitation of the really bad Blair Witch Project.
Hard-core slasher aficionados will find things to like ... but overall the Halloween series has lost its edge.
Redo the first movie, add a reality show element where everybody wears a personal cameras so not only do we get overacting, we get fuzzy video feeds and bad camera angles.
While the production values here are more cool than crappy, there's nothing really new about Resurrection.
Spectators will indeed sit open-mouthed before the screen, not screaming but yawning.
The movie is like a year late for tapping into our reality tv obsession, and even tardier for exploiting the novelty of the "webcast."
The latest episode of the Halloween franchise is a bad film. It is not, however, so bad that the faithful should be discouraged from attending.
This latest installment of the horror film franchise that is apparently as invulnerable as its trademark villain has arrived for an incongruous summer playoff, demonstrating yet again that the era of the intelligent, well-made B movie is long gone.
By the miserable standards to which the slasher genre has sunk,...actually pretty good. Of course, by more objective measurements it's still quite bad.
Only a few minutes elapse before the daddy of all slashers arrives, still with the boiler suit and white mask, which look remarkably clean for a guy who has been mass-murdering since 1978 but has never been seen doing laundry.
