Peter Jackson Jumps Onto "Halo"'s Ship
by Binh Ngo | October 04, 2005
Discuss Article
Peter Jackson, the director of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the forthcoming "King Kong" remake, has signed on to executive produce the effects-heavy "Halo," the movie adaptation of the popular video game title on the Xbox game system. A team from Bungie, the game's developer, will visit Jackson next week to discuss plans for the movie, IGN FilmForce reports.

How much involvement Jackson has with the movie remains to be seen, but Universal and Fox are in the process of searching for a director. According to Variety, the movie is scheduled for a summer 2007 release. Screenwriter Alex Garland is currently revising the script.

Please, let Jackson say, "The hell with it!" and decide to direct.

Given the history of the (sub)genre, I'm a little surprised that Jackson would put his name on a video game movie.

At least now we'll know the special effects will be top notch.

The lord of the rings films were artistically akin to slinging shit at a movie screen, and this is gonna be no different

^Trying to start fight. Anyway...

Wow. Considering that Peter Jackson cut his teeth on bad horror films and scored big with LOTR, perhaps he can be the one to breathe life into the videogame movie genre.

these could be the reason why the Halo film will be the best game-to-film adaptation of them all:

- Peter Jackson will bring in Weta digital (which in my eyes are way better than ILM) and also the film will be more cost effective in New Zealand because it has the terrain.

- the writer is an oscar winner to, forgotten the name...

- Bungie are in total control of the film, which IS good.

- Master Cheif will be digital and i DO hope they get the same voice actor, otherwise it would just not work at all...

Master Chief's voice is not hard to emulate. In fact, its probably one of the easiest types of voice to imitate: A deep, dark, bad-ass voice inside a suit. Look at Dumbledor from the Harry Potter movies: He died after the first movie and they had to find a replacement. Heck, I don't even know if he died after the first or second movie, because I can't tell the difference. Its not like you've seen a digitally scanned actor in the game -- its only a voice.

Just ignore Fucktard, I mean Paul_is_drunk. The only time I've ever seen a comment from under his rock is when he has something negative to say, so I figure he only pops into the light on occasion to make derisive remarks as flame bait, and then he crawls back into his little hole and returns to masturbating over back issues of National Geographic.

even though i do wish like some of you that he'd direct it his presence alone along with is great movie making skills will most likely make this movie that best game adapted from a movie. The thing that would hurt is that i hear that UWE BOLL is going to direct this; Screw that....hes like the worst director ever.I would LOVE if Ridley Scott directed. He would be perfect. As for halo himself the idea of him being cgi'ed would be decent but i doubt that will happen. Someone could play them if they had the right voice and physique for it like my choice.....Vin Diesel.

Peter Jackson is the type of guy i'd want doing a video game movie. the guy took The Lord of the Rings - something that could have turned out laughably absurd - and made phenominal, serious films out of them. you know he takes the source material seriously, so whatever involvement he had in this film, you know it will be serious and smart, not some cheesy, mindless, nor tongue-in-cheek nonsense like Uwe Boll or Paul W.S. Anderson.

Good God, why aren't you director? This movie could be a lot better with Jackson in the director's chair. Ah well, maybe it'll have some success with the effects.

Dude, if Uwe Boll, or Paul S. Anderson (whatever his name was that directed such s**t like "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" and "Alien Vs. Predator")directed this, I'd f**kin' kill myself. Agreed, he is the WORST director ever, and the other is not better.
And if Ridley Scott directed this, I'd die and go to my "Kingdom of Heaven"; alright, bad pun. I mean, did you SEE "Black Hawk Down"?! If he gave this the treatment he gave that movie, it'd be incredible. This movie would get the treatment it deserves, and would kick SO much a** at the box office. I agree that some of the stuff should be shot in New Zealand. They should also get Hans Zimmer for the music; he can do any type of music for any genre, and make it work.
Even though the writer wrote "The Beach", which I'll never forgive him for, he also wrote "28 Days Later", which I can't forgive him enough for (incredible movie).
As for Vin Diesel, I would only say yes to him doing the physique (if the didn't CGI Master Chief [which I would LOVE!!]). I think they should get someone good for the voice; Vin Diesel is not a very good actor.
One thing's for sure: the people working on the movie MUST take the concept seriously. The director of "Starship Troopers" didn't take the material seriously, and look how badly that sucked.
I'm spent.

Now i just hope and pray that Jackson will direct it. Exc. Producer is still good though, at least the movie will be taken seriously. And now we know the effects will be great. This is one of my all time favorite game so i'm glad there's still hope for the movie to not suck ass.
