When Ruby meets Sam (Vincent D'Onofrio), a quirky hospice nurse, she thinks he's another freaky weirdo like all the other guys she's dated. But as she gets to know him better, his funny little mannerisms start to grow on her. So they move in together and romantic bliss ensues. Gradually, Ruby finds a couple of mysterious clues hidden in their apartment that reveal Sam might not be who he claims to be. When Ruby confronts him, he tells her he traveled back from the future to meet her because he fell in love with a photograph he found of her in a curio shop. Ruby thinks his story is some kind of kinky fantasy that he's using to spice up their sex life, but when strange coincidences begin to make his story seem true, she wonders. If Sam is telling the truth, he may change her life forever, but if he's lying, then what? Anthony Michael Hall makes a hilarious cameo appearance in one of the funniest scenes in the movie. [More]

A perfectly pleasant date movie, with enough charm to move it past the slow spots.

Anderson is a hopeless romantic in a cynical world, and for a brief moment he makes the case that true love is the only power that can crack time and space.

Has an engaging, light-hearted sweetness, clever plot and, amazingly, no special 4-D effects.

Anderson constructs a story where past and future converge to redefine present-tense romantic anxiety. And in so doing he offers a redefinition of love.

Doesn't have the negative qualities of many big-studio romantic comedies, but it doesn't quite take flight.

Happy Accidents is about as unconventional a romantic comedy as you're likely to find - the only problem is that the lackluster science fiction elements keep getting in the way.

A cleverly resourceful mixture of romantic comedy and sci-fi time travel.

The film becomes repetitious in the extreme.

A warped kind of romantic comedy in which the whole is substantially less than the sum of the parts.

Anderson employs a delicate touch in his direction, milking the comedy for all its worth but never losing sight of his story's romance.

Unlike the typical Hollywood romance, its belief in happily-ever-after, even if it has to come from the fourth dimension, feels authentic.

A quirky little film that delves deeply into our preconceived notions of reality and closely held myths of love.
