I am a mod at a famous HP site, I like the books too, but I dispise the movies and the hopeless Hope that the Hype of the movie creates. Sure PoA was Technicaly Superiour and was more darker than the first two movies, but it was a serious mess of the Story. Sure I love the books but the movies are not good movies, none of them were.

I know I may sound stupid, but I love the books, and I'm always a purist when it comes to Book>Movie translations. I really didn't like the first two, because they had little changes that just bothered me. I liked the 3rd, even though that was the least faithful to the book (I.E Getting the Firebolt at the end really mad me angry) but I liked the tone and how things were getting a lot darker, because this book is one of the darkest of all of the books.

The third one may be one of the darkest, but it is no where near close to how dark the fifth one is! And i agree with shruti, i love the books, but the movies just suck, they leave out alot of the stuff that makes the books good, and focus directly on the plot. Its almost like they are trying to rush through the book to get the point across. The third movie, however was jumbled up and could have been alot closer to the book, and it also lacked the explanation of things that non-readers wont understand in the later movies. It was just a mess. but thats my opinion

I would agree that there is a lot of hype surrounding the books and movies, but the story is very good. I love the books and overall I think the movies have been pretty good. As for the movies leaving out parts of the books, that is just natural. You can't make a movie from a book and include everything...the movies woud be 5 hours long. I think that the movies so far have stayed very true to the books. I've seen lots of movies made from books and they deviated from the book so much that it did not make much sense. Hopefully GoF will stick to the story and not be chopped up. Its a long book, so it will require a good director to integrate all the elements. I'm looking forward to reading Half Blood Prince.

Am I the lone man out in saying the third Harry Potter movie was by far the best, story wise, acting, tone, and everything? I really liked how the third movie seemed like a real movie compared to the first two, but still managed to be true to the essence of the book.
That said, I am not thinking that the fourth movie will be nearly as good. To be very truthful to the book (as the first two were) and under 3 hours, Goblet of Fire will be really episodic and harder to follow.

Tired of Potter hate
Ever since LotR & the first HP movie opened, I've been very sick of the Potter hate that everyone seems to spew. Back then, we had unfair comparisons to LotR (very, very different books/movies people). Now, we get "well, the movies are just not as good as the books!" WHAT MOVIES ARE!! Certainly not the LotR series and anyone who thinks so either didn't make it through the books or needs to go back and read them again. An epic literary masterpiece was turned into a special effects extravaganza with as many story line changes as any other big screen conversion out there (Boromir & Faramir anyone?); yet everyone lapped it right up. That's fine. I enjoyed the LotR movies for what they were and no more than that. But I also enjoy the HP movies for what they are. Brilliant casting, beautiful imagery, and a chance to see the characters that I have read so much of walking around in 5.1 widescreen glory in story lines reasonably close enough to make the movie enjoyable. Most people I talked to were amazed to see the images in the first movie because they appeared exactly as the readers imagined everything to look. It really was breath-taking to see little Harry jump out of my head and onto the screen. But let us not forget that these are first & foremost childrens & young adult literature. Now, quit trying to be the first to p*ss in everyone's cornflakes and enjoy the fun. Besides, we've still got another SW to soak up all of our hatred.

Seriously, Ive read all the books and sure the changes in in the movie are noticeable especially Azkaban but the movies are great. They cant fit everything into the movies. I never judge a movie based on what it doesnt have and neither should anyone else. If you want a 5 hour movie so they can fit everything in it than thats just sad.

I know that its impossible to put every thing from the books to the movie, but a movie should Explain somethings that effects the Plot line of the movie , It took Harry less than 2 seconds to believe Sirius, to the non readers that was etremly confusing and it is not a sign of a good movie to leave out such things. Sure PoA was way way better than the first two disney style movies but it still wasnt a good movie.

oh has anybody heard the news? In the GoF movie Harry apparently Jumps from a 5 feet Rock to impress girls :P ( this just keeps getting worse!)

No, you're not alone
I also thought the third movie was best. The first two were okay, but for some reason I forgot about them almost as soon as I'd seen them. They lacked *heart*, I think.
Whereas the third one made some pretty hefty changes to the plot, but had the important thing- a tone that was of the book, and true to the book, and which made it worthy.

No way am I going to beleive that rumour. Where did you hear it?
...And way, I'm sure the movie makers have got enough to try and fit in without adding gratuitous scenes like that one. That would be just... jumping the rock. Hahah.

It's a fact we can't put everything in film as adapted from book! Cuaron did a good job for POA's vision & atmosphere & ..thought the plot still flash flash flash, we can see the real acting. Columbus just good at casting but he's poor directing make HP films flat.

lol its not a Rumor... it was there in Dan Radcliffe's Interview in a Magazine ( if you see the Movie Photos there is a photo that shows Dan falling) Dan said he did the Stunt Himself and that he was happy about that... then he Blurted out why the Scene was in the movie.. If you want to know more go to any well known HP fansite.. like Mugglenet or Veritaserum You'll find the news there.
