"Harry Potter" and the Recall Scheme
Specific DVDs go "out of print" all the time, sometimes due to poor sales and sometimes due to elaborate marketing schemes (koffDISNEY). Anyway, the point is this: If you want to own a "Harry Potter" movie on DVD, you better buy your copies before December.
From Pottersite HPANA: "Warner Bros. has confirmed to HPANA that it plans to pull all of the first four Harry Potter DVDs off store shelves by early 2007, with no announced plans for their return. "Sorcerer's Stone," "Chamber of Secrets" and "Prisoner of Azkaban" will become unavailable after December 29, 2006. "Goblet of Fire" will follow suit on February 9, 2007.
First reported by Home Media Retailing Magazine, the move may indicate WB's interest in stoking sales this non-Potter holiday season, or preparing for newer editions of the films on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray technology."
(Or just another set of re-issues once "Order of Phoenix" hits DVD.)

on Jul 27 2006 05:08 AM I really hope nobody (who doesn't already own the films on DVD) rushes out and rents them from the dollar section and makes a copy of them using DVDShrink. That would circumvent the entire plan. THank God for morals. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 27 2006 05:56 AM Oh please. You know they're going to just come back out when the next movie hits DVD. Just like they have pulled and re-issued all the James Bond DVDs like 95 times now. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 27 2006 08:55 AM I agree, they just want people to snatch up the box set they'll come out with eventually. They starve the market now, and people run out to buy all seven when the box set eventually does come out. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 27 2006 10:51 PM I'd like to see some commentary. Well, not really, cause that would mean I got screwed when I bought the movies the first time. What I mean, is if they re-release all the dvds for Holiday 2007, I want some commentary. Preferably a track of the kids, sort of looking back, a track for the director, and hopefully, whatshername that writes the books, and a track for anyone else in the cast who can show up. No offense to the special effects guys, but their commentaries are never that interesting, and you can usually find all that info in the extras anyway, (Reply to this) |
