Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson Confirmed for Final "Harry Potter" Films
by RT Staff | March 23, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Earlier this week, we reported of possible trouble a-brewing over at Hogwarts: Emma Watson was considering not re-signing her "Harry Potter" contract, desiring to branch out for new roles. But WB has settled the matter, announcing via press release that Watson has signed on to complete the series with "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

"I could never let Hermione go -- she is my hero!" states Watson. "I love her too much and love what playing her has meant to me. I am excited and honoured to be finishing what I started and playing her in all seven of the films."

WB's press release also confirms that Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint will see "Harry Potter" to its conclusion, though there was little speculation the boys were going to jump ship.

Friend opportunity! The trio will finish the series together.

"Playing the role of Harry Potter has been an immense privilege, and I look forward to completing the series," says Radcliffe. "I feel a huge sense of loyalty to the character of Harry and the fans who have supported these films over the years. During filming, I have learnt so much, made lots of friends and met people who have changed my life. I am indebted to J. K. Rowling, Warner Bros. and [producer] David Heyman for giving me this fantastic opportunity."

And mop topped Grint chimes in: "Ron Weasley has become a big part of my life and not just because we’ve both got ginger hair!"

The fifth "HP" movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," is due for U.S. release on July 13. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will hit bookstores a few weeks afterwards on July 21.

cool, now if only Sony can keep Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi from leaving the Spidey franchise.

Yeah, right.

"I don't wanna be Hermione any more."
"Really? Tell you what, we're just going to keep dropping bags of money in front of your feet until you agree to do the last 2 movies."
"I love Hermione, she's my hero!"

Good Choice. A small cast change here and there would've been acceptable, especially earlier in the series (I still liked the old Dumbledore better though), but after you've gotten attached to a character, it's hard to get re-attached.

I hate Richard Harris for dying (haha, just kidding). He WAS Dumbledore though; Michael Gambon doesnt do the role any sort of justice.

Nice to see that theyll finish the series out. Its weird comparing them from the first one to the newer ones, but its cool to see that change, see how they grow up from flick to flick.

Actually, I'm beginning to like Gambon a little more than Harris. Harris was far more kindly and gentle and such, but Gambon's got a little bit more depth to him. If you combined both performances, you would get the perfect Dumbledore.

why do I have the feeling that Watson's & Radcliffe's careers would end up just like Mark Hamill's & Carrie Fisher's when they did the STAR WARS trilogy. Maybe Grint's gonna end up with a Harrison Ford-like career?

She just said she'd like to do something besides Harry Potter. She never said she'd want to leave.

That's where the rumors started to surface of her leaving. If you would actually read it you'd see she's questioning her career choice, not her stay on the franchise.

whatever, the three kids are having fun and making money... if they want to hold the franchise ransom and make a bit more coin, good on them. it would be a pleasant surprise if they have successful careers. hopefully when the franchise is over they can take some drastically different parts, like radcliffe did when he did that Equuis play in london.

Seriously! The rumors that get started from misquotes are worthy or Rita Skeeter.

However, considering that she filmed the first film when she was 10 and is now about to turn 17, I do not see anything wrong with taking a little time to decide if this is what she wants to spend the last few years of her childhood doing.

That being said, I am so glad that the trio will finish off the series. I honestly can not imagine trying to adjust to a new Ron and Hermione for the last 2 films.

To be fair, Mark Hamill's had a pretty prolific career. You just don't see his face a lot. When I think of the Joker, I think Mark Hamill.

Definitely good news. Good to know that we won't be faced with new stars for the final film, that would take away too much from the film and ultimately ruin the experience.
