Naomi Watts to Be Nasty in "Harry Potter 6"?
by Scott Weinberg | May 07, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

You'll forgive me for not knowing much about the character named "Narcissa Malfoy," but recent gossip indicates that she might pop up in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and also that she could be played by Britsh cutie Naomi Watts. Back to Article

Shes a good choice for sure.

Shes also good eye candy in a series otherwise lacking in hotness.

Hermione's well on her way though :)

Hate to be a stickler, but I think you'll find Naomi Watts is AUSTRALIAN, not British.
She'll have no problems though. Most aussie actors can fake the accent beautifully. It's where their own is derived from.

You can't be a stickler when you are wrong.

She was born in the UK but raised in AU... which would be good enough for HP.

Naomi would be an awesome addition to the already stellar HP cast, but she is so hot I would have a hard time hating her as Narcissa like in the books!
Not a bad problem to have though...

She may be able to pull off a brit accent, but her american accent in KK was off. It wasn't bad, but the lack of any regional accent made it sound flat and it completely stuck out throughout the film.

Ok, I have a question... where these threads always this stupid and I just never noticed? I mean just today, there's the completely irrelevent question of whether or not Dakota Fanning would be good in the recently announced Peter Jackson project that makes no mention of casting consideration... and here's this thread devoted completely to the question of where Naomi Watts was born/raised, which is supposedly relevent to question of whether or not she'd be good in the role of Draco's mom in HP6...

Watts is great and I would love to see her added to the cast. As for it being a pretty small role, I'm sure it will get expaneded in book seven.

Spikes, the question over where Naomi Watts was born/raised is relevant to the Harry Potter films because they rarely, if ever, cast non-brittish actors. I initially thought this was a bogus rumor because I thought she was Australian, but apparently she is UK born. BTW, people just love to chat Online about everything under the sun, no matter how stupid.

She's supposed to be the mother of 16 year old Draco Malfoy. Isn't she too young? I love her, but I'm not sure she would look old enough for the part.

Hey, if you were a hot babe and you could do magic, wouldn't your first magical task be to make yourself look perpetually 25, even if you were actually 47? In those circumstances I think she's quite reasonable for the part.

...That's what I'm wondering, to be honest. Narcissa's appearance, however important, is short. And she doesn't even appear again after that. I don't think there's really a point in hiring such a renowned actress for the part. Just pluck any random blonde woman off the street.

I believe that Naomi Watts is in her mid-30's so I guess her being Draco Malfoy's mother isn't too much of a stretch. It's not like they've cast Paris Hilton in the role. I'm not a huge Potterhead but as I recall, Narcissa is able to do a spell that keeps her perpetually young, so yes, Naomi Watts is a great choice for the role. I mean who else could you see as Narcissa?

I think it would be better to cast an unknown actress. We are already accustomed to the other characters because we've known them for five years but they were unknown to begin with. I think casting a "celebrity" is a mistake. This doesn't mean that I don't like Naomi Watts. I think she's a great actress, I just think it will take away the "magic" of the films.

Naomi would be cool. but I think Nicole Kidman would be better. Not knocking either, but for that role, it seems NK would be more icy/cold but with some empathy still. Plus she kinda pointy. I think of the Malfoys as being very angular looking people.

Well most of the children in the movies were unknown actors and actresses but the adult roles were filled with highly acclaimed and pretty well known actors. Example, Alan Rickman plays the role of Severus Snape and as far as I understand he's pretty popular in Britain as well as in the states. The same goes for Ralph Fiennes who plays Lord Voldemort, Gary Oldman-Sirius Black, Helena Bonham Carter-Bellatrix Lestrange, Maggie Smith-Minerva McGonagall, Robbie Coltrane-Rubeus Hagrid and lets not forget Emma Thompson-Sybil Trelawney. These are all well known and respected actor and actresses that most are familiar with. My point to this is that casting Naomi Watts for Narcissa Malfoy would in fact be a reasonable and consistent choice based one what we've seen so far. I think her 'celebrity' is equal to the other actors I mentioned and I don't think it'll be a problem if they decide to go with her.

Well this discussion can be put to rest, Naomi Watts WILL NOT be playing Narcissa Malfoy, because Helen McCrory has been casted for that role. I don't know if she will be good for that role, but since she is supposed to be Bellatrix Lestrange's sister, I can see a ressemblance. However, they will need to make her blonder and paler, because I believe that is how Narcissa Malfoy was discribed in the book.

Naomi Watts is ridiculous as Narcissa Malfoy. I don't care if Narcissa CAN do a spell to keep herself perpetually young, its still a ridiculous casting choice. And I don't think she can pull off the accent. I don't hate her if that's what you think, I just don't think its a good choice. I think Narcissa Malfoy in my mind sort of looks like either Miranda Richardson (but it can't be her, cause she plays Rita Skeeter), or an unhappy/mean Michelle Pfeiffer. And it needs to be someone who has some presence, cause if you're going to be standing next to Jason Isaacs, you can't just be some broad off the street. Its obviously NOT going to be Michelle Pfeiffer, but you get what I mean..

NO NO NO! A. Way To Young B. Way To Pure C. just because there is already a Loyal All star cast dosn't mean they need another Huge star to help.
That character is a cold old ruddy *****. Naomi Watts isn't any of those things dosn't matter how much make up you putt on her. I could see her as an Order Member but not as Malfoys Mother.

God I feel like a Total Nerd....

Lena Olin should paly Narcissa... not only do I love Lena as an actress, but I think she'd be able to beautifully portray the conflict Narcissa has between keeping up her publicly "wife of a death eater" appearnces with the internally concerned and even compassionate mother. but my opinion doesn't matter anyway
