Photo Update: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Potter! Shazam! Potter! Shazam!

It's fantasy showdown in Hollywood! This upcoming awards season, as the cinephiles debate Benjamin Button's wrinkles and the continuing insanity of Oliver Stone, the young and young at heart can sidestep the intellectual hoo-hah with two major fantasy spectacles: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Twilight. Will Stephenie Meyer's upstart vampires knock those Rowling wizard kids off their high horses? We'll see at some point! For now, set your peepers on four new images from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, out November 21.

I love that picture of Luna Lovegood. And I guess that's Ron in his keeper gear.

Luna is so weird but I love her. Haha. Is it November yet?

And to answer the question, no, Twilight will not knock the Harry Potter kids off their high horses. No chance in hell.

Harry Potter will definitely do better in the box office than Twilight, although, as a female teenage nerd, I will be seeing both :)

Harry Potter will be remembered as a classic-Twilight will be forgetten in a couple years. And if the trailer of Twilight is any indication the movie is going to stink.

I was under the assumption that this film would feature a lot of footage concerning the early life of Tom Riddle... but none of the press has reflected that. I wonder whats up.

I don't think Twilight will be able to steal any thunder from this film. Potter's guarenteed to make $200 million domestically at least.

Until The Hobbit is finally ready to go, we probably won't see another fantasy film come close to the level LOTR and the other Potter movies have reached.

At absolute best Twilight will mirror the Spiderwick Chronicles' success - it's not going to touch HBP.

I'm just hoping the new Potter flick doesn't feel as hackneyed as Order... I still can't believe how poorly told Order's last act was.

Hamboner: There will be scenes flashing back to Tom in the orphanage as there are in the book. From what I can gather, Ralph Fiennes doesn't appear, but Hero Fiennes-Tiffin plays a preteen version of Riddle in the flashbacks.

Twilight is temporary scene kid trash. The difference between that movie and Half-Blood Prince is that one of the two movies will (presumably) get good reviews and respect among the critical community and audiences. The other will be forgotten within months after a critical panning and fade away quietly on DVD with little to no possibility of a sequel.

Oh good, we're up to *TWO* spambots per thread.

-back on topic, I agree with general consensus here that I have NO IDEA why there's even a debate here: Movie based upon the most popular book series of the last quarter century vs. ...a movie that is NOT based upon the most popular book series of the last quarter century.

hmmm. lemme work on this...
